United Ink tattoo Show
|
Many people packed Resorts Casino at Aqueduct Racetrack during the weekend of March 20-22 but it wasn't just for the games. Nope. Many people packed the casino to attend the United Ink Tattoo Show presented by World Famous Tattoo Lou and company. Tattoo Lou (Rubino) and his wife Jackie along with the rest of the Tattoo Lou staff did an excellent job setting up and making sure this was a tattoo show for the ages.
The expo room on the casinos third floor was packed with show goers all weekend as they came to get inked, meet artists or just walk around to enjoy the many different vendors that were on hand. If you are a tattoo enthusiast this was definitely the spot for you to be at either the entire weekend or just at least one of the three days. Going all three was probably your best bet as a very gracious $55 weekend pass was available which saved you $25 ($25/day if you bought each day individually). Event goers were excited to come see their favorite celebrity artists as well that have been featured on some of the most popular reality tattoo shows. The event was mc'd by Joey Tattoo of Tattoo Rescue and featured Big Gus and Jasmine Rodriguez of Tattoo Nightmares. Bobby Moss along with his beautiful wife Heather made it down from Arizona along with their entire team and were booked solid the entire time. Another cool artist that was present was Atlanta's Tattoo Richie. Even making the trip all the way from Portugal was Nuno Feio.
The show was also filled with many interesting shows and very cool bands that took place on stage throughout. People were very much interested in the suspension shows which is always a popular draw. Other vendors included the very popular website Talesofthetatt.com who had their merchandise for sale and were doing interviews. |
They caught the brave people who wanted to get in front of the video camera to either talk about their ink they have had for a little while, or their ink they just got at the show. The gorgeous women of the Women of Armageddon also had a table that allowed people to take awesome photo opps courtesy of the very talented photographer and creator of the WOA calendar, Michael Zinn.
The next show in the area is already scheduled and is set for the weekend of September 11-13 over at the Cradle of Aviation Museum for United 915. Ticket and show information can be found at NewYorkTattooShow.com. If you missed the one at Resorts then you should make it every point to make it to the museum in the fall.

Spring Craft Beer Festival
|
Both shifts were completely sold out at the annual Spring Craft Beer Festival held on March 21 at the Nassau Coliseum. Tons of beer fans attended the event to try some of their favorites and to maybe get introduced to a new favorite. This yearly event put on by Star Fish Junction is never a let down. For no more then $55 beer fans get to select a shift (afternoon or night) that lasts three and a half hours to try as much beer as they possibly can.
When attendees first arrive, they are greeted by the many volunteers to get a wrist band and to pick up their tasting glass. Once that was taken care of, it was time to let the games begin. The breweries that were in attendance were set up all around the floor downstairs in the exhibition hall of the coliseum. Where ever you wanted to go to get started was totally up to you. Blue, Moon, the very popular Curious Traveler, to Sam Adams were all present and happily there to greet their fans and to answer any question that you may have had about their product. The fest also contained seminars throughout the sessions which was included in the admission. The three that took place this time was a seminar about aging beer, a seminar on chocolate pairings and even a seminar on how to make your very own home brew right out of your house. We here at LIME were fortunate to be able to attend that one and found it very interesting. It was led by Brian Baker of the Bellport Brewing Company. There were also a few non beer vendors on hand as well. There were two beef jerky companies giving put samples of some of their various flavors, to a company called Lost My Dog who specializes in creating very cool and unique pictures of different areas on Long Island and the city. If you are reading this and you have been to one of the numerous fests put on by Star Fish you know they are always run great and are always a blast. If you are reading this and you have never been to one put on by them we definitely recommend you to check out their official website at Starfishjunction.com to check out their up and coming events. Get a group of friends together and attend for a really great and fun time. |
I Love Chocolate Fest
Chocolate fans of all ages packed the Academy Sports Complex in Farmingdale on Sunday, March 29th for the annual I Love Chocolate Fest. The festival opened its doors at 10 a.m. and for an early Sunday morning start well through out the day, the line to walk in was very much alive. For a low price of $12 visitors were able to walk around the floor and stop, talk and most importantly try what each chocolate vendor had to taste.
The Sports Complex was filled with some of the best local chocolate products around and it appeared that not only did the people who come to try them have a good time but so did the staff of the many places on hand. Everywhere you turned there was a unique and different type of chocolate product to try. From cake in a jar by "Get Jarred", to some of the best chocolate crumb cakes from the Delicious Delights Bakery, to a chocolate fountain (Come on now. Whats a chocolate fest with out one) to even chocolate bacon, this yearly fest had it all. It was also cool because this event was definitely a family oriented so if you stopped by with the kids and you wanted to have them get their energy from their sugar rush out, there were a few different things to do just so. WBLI 106.1 was on hand and hosted a hoola hoop contest for the kids as well as a photo opp with the Easter Bunny. Many kids also took time out to kick some goals courtesy of the soccer nets that were lying around. There were also a number of non chocolate vendors that made their way to spend the afternoon at the ASC including the owners and creators of Tower Pong. Tower Pong is a new drinking game which has just recently been developed. For the info you can check out towerpong.com. Local author, Stephanie Sorkin also had her table set up where she was selling copies of her book "Chocolate Shoes". |
|
The day turned out to be a hit as it was the perfect thing to do on a nice cool spring like day. No matter if you came with one person, or your entire family, if you are a "chocaholic" and you attended, without a question you went home very happy. And full. Please check back to the official festival website at theilovechocolatefest.com for info for next year if you would like to return or to check it out if you missed it this time.
Filter live at The emporium
No matter who Richard Patrick has playing next to him or behind him, collectively, the band Filter always plays hard and always puts on an excellent show. That was the case over at the Emporium in Patchogue when they played there on Thursday, April 2.
Playing with a whole new cast of band members, (Chris Reeve on drums, Oumi Kapila on lead guitar and the very beautiful Ashley Dzerigan on bass) the band started their performance rocking out and getting the crowd right into their set. They opened with "You Walk Away" and then played the rest of the hour with some songs recognized by the old school Filter fans that were in the house and some new songs to the new fans that were in the house. "Trip Like I Do", "Hey Man Nice Shot" and "Welcome to the Fold", were the songs that are usually a guarantee when attending a Filter show were played. Even though the performance really didn't need it, the band left out one of their mot popular songs "Take My Picture". Maybe when they return to the area they will perform it as Patrick did mention that we will be hopefully seeing them soon as the head liner. During this show they were playing in support of Coal Chamber. Other songs that filled the set were "What Do You Say", "The Take" and "Jurassitol" from the very popular movie "The Crow". Patrick also received admiration from the crowd throughout the night when he kept on mentioning what has gone wrong with music since the 90's (the time when Filter first came out). He mentioned many of today's artists and was wondering why these artists are up there today playing such terrible music. Patrick also talked about the time when him and the rest of the band who made up Filter at that time made an appearance over seas to play for the men and women serving. He said that not only did they play for them but they had a blast hanging out and spending time with them as well. The stage at the Emporium was lit up with a very cool red, white and blue light display at that time and got the crowd chanting "USA", "USA", "USA". |
|
Filter has played our area quite a few times at a variety of venues over the last few years and they never seem to disappoint. It will be cool to see if they get that headlining show because it will be a show not to be missed.
Papa Roach at the paramount
|
It's always good to see that a band from a few years back
still has what it takes to absolutely bring the house down and totally rock out
the place. That was the case when Papa Roach came to the area to play The
Paramount. Already known for their extremely energetic sets, front man
Jacoby Shaddix and fellow P. Roach band mates did not at all disappoint the
large crowd that showed up from the minute they walked on stage to the minute
they exited.
The band came on and opened with "Face Everything and Rise" which was a great song to begin with. Shaddix came on and invited everyone to start jumping right from the get go. There was almost not one single person out there in GA land that did not listen as the floor was shaking and P. Roach was doing their thing. The band then went into the popular single "Getting Away With Murder" which made the crowd continue to go wild and already get their moneys worth 10 minutes in. And that is how the entire night continued. The band continued to play single after single ("Broken Home", "Last Resort" (which we will talk about next), as well as "To Be Loved"). And for all you WWE fans out there, if you remember, "To Be Loved" was also the theme song to WWE Raw a couple of years ago as well. Papa Roach also played some new tunes off their new album which the newer Roach fans seemed to enjoy. The crowd applauded when Shaddix announced that the band just recently celebrated their 15 year existence. Hard to believe that time goes by that fast. When they got up to playing "Last Resort"they brought one of their stage crew members named Cyrus to celebrate his birthday which was on this night. To celebrate, Shaddix invited him to take the place of drummer Tony Palermo for the one song. Shaddix jokingly told him not to fuck it up which he certainly did not. Good ol' Cyrus looked like a pro up there as he played like he was the bands real drummer. A lot of bands have made more then one appearance at The Paramount since this awesome venue has opened its doors and please do your self the favor. If you see that P. Roach is returning please make it your effort to attend. The bands newest album titled F.E.A.R. is currently out and available to buy off the Papa Roach website or your local album store. Whether you are old school Papa Roach or new school Papa Roach definitely pick up the album if you have not done so already. |
3rd Annual LI Wing Fest
This years LI Wing Fest took to a different approach in a lot of ways. Usually held at the Nutty Irishman in Bay Shore and at the end of August, Danny Wiseman (creator of the Wing Fest and owner of Even Flow Bar and Grill in Bay Shore) held his annual extravaganza on Saturday, May 2 over at the American Airpower Museum at Republic Airport in Farmingdale. Not only were the date and location different but the whole atmosphere was different as well. The entire festival was situated outside right next to one of the major runways. It gave the event a cool vibe with seeing all the planes taking off and landing as wing upon wing was enjoyed. The last major difference with this years fest was that it was a minor beer fest as well. A bunch of local brewers were invited to have event goers try some of their great beer along with eating some excellent wings. All the wings you could eat and all the beer you could drink was included in your price of admission through the gates.
Many smart people arrived early to get a good spot on line before doors opened as it was announced days before happening that this event was a complete sell out with absolutely no tickets available day of. Once your ticket was scanned, you were given a taste glass for your beer and you were off. With so many tables to choose where to start it was a very difficult decision. Some of the restaurants/bars that were on hand that were in the wing competition was Even Flow (only participated in fan favorite), Instant Replay of Huntington, Brixx and Barley of Long Beach, Millers Ale House and the reigning champions of last year, Dirty Burger of Plainview. Some of the beer vendors that were on hand were from Samuel Adams, Goose Island, McKenzies Hard Cider as well as Curious Traveler. There were quite a few non wing and beer exhibitors as well that made their way to the museum. Noodles and Company was in attendance to hand out their delicious buffalo mac and cheese (which was also at no cost to the attendees), old fashioned doughnuts were available to be purchased (which drew a line most of the day as long as some of the most popular wing spots) as well as local celebrity Brimstone who had his various amount of merchandise including his popular hot sauces which also drew a lot of attention. |
The judging panel this year was quite smaller then in the past. Only four judges claimed the winners. They were our very own Todd Silver, Brimstone, WBC Boxing Champ Cletus "The Hebrew Hammer" Seldin and Danny Wiseman. They judges judged the wings on three categories. They were: traditional bbq, Creative sauce and buffalo. At the end it was apparent that one place was the favorite among all four as there was a new Wing Champion crowned this day. The big winner was Instant Replay winning all three major categories. It was a great day to be outside as the weather was perfect and all the lucky ones who were able to purchase a ticket got their moneys worth and more. LIWingfest.com is the official website so keep your eyes posted on it next year to receive information on Wing Fest #4. |
Seether live at the Paramount
|
It was Seethers turn to take the ever so popular stage at The Paramount on Wednesday, May 6. The band made their return to Huntington and played all the singles and top hits along with some of their new material. There was a nice size crowd that came out to support the band as they are currently on tour throughout the east.
The band came out and opened with "Gasoline" which is the song they start off with on the Disclaimer II album. Right away, Shaun Morgan and crew played hard and it set the mood for the rest of the night. They followed the opener with "Needles" and "Rise Above This" and then "Same Damn Life" which was one of the new ones off of Isolate and Medicate which was released last year. The band also performed "Drive Under" which is a great song to hear live as Morgan partners with bassist Dale Stewart. But one of the most popular songs that was recognized by the crowd was "Broken". Seether made this song known when they partnered with Amy Lee of Evenescence as both her and Morgan went back and forth between verses. Another new song that made the set list on this fine evening was "Country Song" Now with a title like that, one must be thinking that country and Seether definitely don't go together. If you were one of the ones thinking that, then think again my friend. Don't let the name of the song fool you as the song is rock from the first second to the last. Surprisingly it got a very good reaction from everybody in attendance. It was a great night of music and the venue host like always makes it that much better. It is always great to see bands and artists perform from back in the day and it is even better when you see that band or artist after x amount of years and they still perform from that time frame. This was the case with Seether. They played a very good set that was a lot heavier and entertaining then expected. The band will be touring again this summer with 3 Doors Down but unfortunately the closest location to the island is over at Mohegan Sun on July 30. Not to far of a road trip and probably well worth it if you want to take the drive on a nice summer day. |
Hooters Appreciation Day presented by mmens magazine
To introduce themselves to the Long Island population, the brand new MMENS Magazine sponsored "Hooters Appreciation Day" in Farmingdale on Saturday, May 16. This new and awesome publication (think Maxim but Long Island) has been doing great locally and have just recently announced that they are making the fast move to go coast to coast. So with that we here at LIME say a HUGE congrats to our friends Jason Rose (President) and the rest of his crew on this major accomplishment.
Having an event over at Hooters is always a crowd pleasure. What else can you want? Hot women. Cars. And just generally a great and fun day out. MMENS Magazine definitely made sure of that. They took over the entire parking lot and filled it with many cool and local vendors to entertain the crowd. On hand were the New York Apocalypse (the areas greatest group of "Zombies), AV (Always Vertical) who had some of their motorcycles on hand, the Jets mobile (which was a rv turned into a tailgating party paradise for those hard core Jets fans). A.J. with his son also named A.J. were also on hand to showcase their custom made bicycles from their father and son business called AJ Built. This father and son duo really out did themselves as they custom make bicycles like you have never seen before. To check out exactly what we mean please check them out over at AJBuilt.com. We will be featuring them more in depth in the near future. And of course the cars. Plus, what is an event at Hooters with cars without and women. The women were there thanks to 631 Coatings and were more then happy to greet all visitors and to take some pictures as well. Sean Landeta, former New York Giant was also on hand to meet all the fans and to sign some autographs. We were lucky to catch up with Rose during this very busy and fun day to see what was the inspiration behind putting this whole magazine together and he told us that "he wanted to do something local that highlights Long Island". And like stated before, the magazine has been doing great. With great photography of some very beautiful models the magazine really hit it big time by reaching that "national" milestone. |
MMENS Magazine will be hosting a bunch of more events including their official launch party at their home "party" base over at Suite 1828 in Merrick on Friday, July 10. It is open to the public so if you are around and want to meet the creators and the team, please feel free to come down to say hello. You can also find them on facebook and online.

lime launch party
|
We here at LIME were officially introduced to the world and it couldn't have gone any better. A line up of some of the best bands our island has to offer and a great venue that produces the worlds best wings, our launch party on May 16 was excellent. We would like to thank Danny Wiseman and his bar, Even Flow for allowing us to have the LIME name on this bill along with Fight of The Century, I-Ignite, Last Turn Off Broadway and Evil Betty.
Fight of The Century took the stage first. The band with newly addition, Frank Guertin Jr on guitar came on and played how they are well known. With a lot of energy. They immediately got everyone going and started the night off very well. FOTC front man AJ V. traded in his drum sticks as he was a drummer for all his previous bands, and now is lead vocals. One who sees FOTC for the first time would probably find that hard to believe as he looks and sounds like a natural lead vocalist from day one. They also just released their new single "Hopeless". Definitely check them out over on their facebook page at Fight of The Century. Next on the stage was I-Ignite. We were very fortunate that a band of this magnitude was able to share this night with us. We were also very lucky that they came back home a day after opening for Seether up in New Hampshire. After playing that show in front of what lead man Eddie said was the biggest crowd they ever played for, I-Ignite continued the excellent night of excellent tunes. For those of you reading this that know the local rock music scene, you know I-Ignite is one of the top. They proved this to the crowd at Even Flow. The next band to play were our good friends that make up Last Turn Off Broadway or LTOB as they like to be called. We would like to thank Artie of LTOB for putting this show together and getting the permission allowing us to share it with LTOB and the other bands. LTOB is no stranger to the stage at Even Flow. They are always a kick ass band to see there or anywhere for that matter. With very catchy tunes and just a great mix of very talented musicians, LTOB is on the rise. They are currently working on some new music that we are looking forward to. |
Closing out the night was Evil Betty. Even though it was the end of the night, EB played with such strong force and like all three other bands, EB did not disappoint anybody. Evil Betty is a band that plays great music. Sean, Anthony, Mike and Ernesto are a great mix that collectively are very good at what they do. As a rock/alt metal band, EB surely knows how to end an already fun and good night.
We would lastly like to thank Dexter from FATHOM who was there representing the brand along with Sean of Renegade Radio who was broadcasting the entire night live on the station. And once again we would like to thank everyone who came down to play. It was an honor for us to be part of a night with some of the top. LIME is here people. Spread the word and show the love.

Iridesense at the Space in westbury
Long time local pop rock band IRIDESENSE hit the stage at The Space at Westbury on June 13 to celebrate the release of their new cd titled "Thought Parade". With a chance to open up for a national act later in the year (those who attended the show could select their favorite act via The Space on social media from that night) the band came out and played such a strong set that right away got the crowd going.
IRIDESENSE opened up with the song "The Line" which is the first track off the new album. The band then went into the very catchy tune "Voice of Reason" off of their 2013 album named "Secret Constellation". The band also performed the two remaining songs off the new album with "My Revelation" followed by "Mind Control Society". Not only is the band known for playing great music and entertaining fans no matter what kind of stage or what kind of venue they are at but IRIDESENSE is all about family. Lead vocalist Tara Eberle-Drouin and bassist Rick Eberle are sister and brother and Tara also has her husband Rich Drouin playing right behind her on the drums. The family also plays with long time friend and guitarist Rob Viccari. Eberle-Drouin always likes to announce the family history when they perform and for those in attendance that are unaware of the connections, it always appears to make the new fans that more interested in the band. Like we said before, IRIDESENSE is not new to the scene. Even though they only play just a few shows a year, the band has been together since the early 90's. To add to their credit, their songs could have been heard on some old school popular Nickelodeon and MTV shows (Zoey 101, Pimp My Ride, Room Raiders to name just a few). Collectively, this band has their musical talents down tight. They are all very talented and always perform top notch sets. To find out more about them, they can be viewed on their official website over at iridesense.com and over on their facebook page as well at facebook.com/iridesense. |

90's Rock Tribute Night at kj farrells
|
For those in the Bellmore area and for those of you who grew up on the great tunes of 90's rock, KJ Farrells in Bellmore hosted and started off Labor Day Weekend 2015 off great. We were there in attendance to check out Basket Case (the ultimate and awesome Green Day tribute band) but also on the bill was Not The Doctor (Alanis Morissette tribute), Monkey Wrench (Foo Fighters tribute), Aneurysm (Nirvana tribute) and Soul To Squeeze (Red Hot Chili Peppers tribute).
Not The Doctor took the stage first. Lead singer Livvie and fellow band mates came on and opened up with the track "All I Really Want". They also played the very popular Morissette hits including "Hand", "You Learn", "Head Over Feet" and "You Oughta". Now we all know that when you are in a tribute band the main goal is to sound and act exactly like who you are covering. Not The Doctor had no problem doing this. Livvie nailed it down to the vocals to even playing the harmonica exactly like Alanis does and is very well known for doing. NTD got the people that were at the bar right into the mood as many people familiar with the songs were right up there by the stage area singing along with them. Livvie even dressed the part as wearing the clothes Morissette can be seen while performing. It was very cool to see a Morissette tribute band because unless you YouTube it you really don't hear the songs anymore so it was a nice way to start the night. So we here at LIME say kudos to you Not The Doctor on a job very well done. Alanis would be proud. |
Next to the stage was the band that we were there to see. Basket Case was the next band to play and if you are a big Green Day fan and you had both of these bands in a room and you closed your eyes we believe it would be very difficult for you to decide which was the actual band and which was the tribute band. Yes my friends. Basket Case is THAT good. And THAT entertaining. Bret Shulman (who plays Billy Joe) is a natural at nailing down the vocals. The entire band as a whole is very tight and you can tell they enjoy and love playing the tunes of Green Day. Playing classics such as "American Idiot", "Holiday", "Basket Case" (which of course had to be played hence the name of the band) to ending their gig with "Good Riddance" were all obvious give ins but it were the songs that are on the rare occurrence that made this set very cool. BC opened up with "Burnout" off the Dookie album. But what turned us on the most was their performance of "Christie Road". We spoke with band member Sal Conca before the show and he told us that "Christie Road was new to their set and that they only played it once before". They tried it again over at Farrells and did an amazing job with it. Perfection is a good word to describe it actually. The band is made up of a bunch of great guys and we definitely would recommend seeing them if you are a big Green Day fan.
As far as we could tell, KJ Farrells was the perfect choice to hold this event. Located in Bellmore town right across from the train station, Farrells is a great spot for live music. They always have something going on and is a fun atmosphere. Please check out their web site over at kjfarrells.com to check out their calendar.

long island harvest fest
On Sunday, October 11, the Lindenhurst Fire Departments Chemical and Salvage Company hosted their first annual Long Island Harvest Fest over at Firemans Park. For an admission charge of $10 which went to help fund the fire department, event goers got their moneys worth with a whole afternoon of various forms of fun, food and entertainment.
With absolutely perfect weather, the organizers did such an excellent job putting this event together in every aspect. Ranging from promoting (especially extensively through Facebook) and setting up, anyone who attended is probably a shoe in to attend next years. The event which was made up of many local vendors, local food venues and many activities for the kids made the day fun filled for the entire family. For the kids, there was the petting zoo, a pumpkin patch and some inflatables for them to enjoy. Over on the main field some of the local vendors that were on hand were Goosebuggy Designs, S&B's Crafty Corner, NYR Organic among a whole list of others. After you were done looking around and making some buys, your next tough choice was where to eat. Even Flow of Bay Shore (known for making their world famous buffalo wings), Noodles and Company, Outback and Texas Road House of Deer Park were just some of the food vendors in attendance. Also, if you wanted to get your hands on some awesome Pumpkin Beer which was courtesy of Ship Yard and which many people stood on line to do, that was an option as well. If you got tired of eating, buying and drinking you could have made your way to one of the two stages to hear some great local talent as Weird Science (a great 80's cover band) and O El Amor performed during the afternoon. |
|
Event organizer Rob Beyer told us that "They always had an indoor Halloween event inside (of the VFW Hall located at Firemans Park) and they wanted to try something new." He said they "Saved money over the last couple of years so they can have this outdoor event." By the looks of things, it was a great idea as again such a huge success all around.
Garbage at the space at westbury
|
Even though they were out playing in celebration of their 20th anniversary, Garbage hit the stage over at The Space like it was still 1995. Not only was the band full of energy, but so was the crowd as they welcomed back Shirley Manson and company. The bands performance was top notch on this evening and they gave everyone in attendance their moneys worth for the night playing a very solid and entertaining two hour gig.
What was cool and what got the crowd excited was what was played before Garbage came on. The stage was blocked by a curtain/screen that played highlights of the band from the late 90's era with rare behind the scenes footage along with highlights from what was happening in the world. Blasts from the past of Bill Gates to the O.J. Simpson trial were some of the clips shown. The curtain remain closed when the band came on as they opened up the night with "Superhuman". The band only appeared as silhouettes behind the curtain but the crowd got right into. It was a very cool and different way to start a show and it definitely set the tone and got the fans more anxious to wait for the curtain to finally open to see the band live. Garbage then broke into "Supervixen", then performed the first single of the night "Queer". Manson also informed the crowd that only those Garbage hits from the 95-96 era were going to be played along with a lot of b-side tracks. It really did not matter to those who packed into The Space because the entire venue was into each and every song. The band also performed two covers on this night. The first was The Jam's "The Butterfly Collector" then they later performed "Kick My Ass" (Vic Chesnutt cover) as their opening encore song. The other singles that were played were "Only Happy When It Rains" , which Manson had the crowd help her along with at the beginning, "Stupid Girl" and "Push It". A four song encore concluded the set and ended the night to not a single disappointed concert goer. As far as Manson and the band, they really came to play and really came to play hard. Manson really still moved like the band first broke onto the scene and still had it going on. In between songs you can really tell that she appreciated how everyone was reacting to the show and to seeing them perform after a long while. It was also cool to hear how the band started and how she came over from Scotland and how the band made it big. We here at LIME would like to thank Rick Eberle of Rick Eberle Public Relations and to Peter Quinn of the bands management team for setting us up to attend and to do this review. |
1st Annual bagel eating contest
Super Bowl Sunday got off to a big start this year and the reason had nothing to do with football. Before people were stuffing their faces with wings, potato chips, pizza and what ever else was put out for the big game, a handful of people were stuffing their faces with bagels as the National Bagel Association hosted their 1st Annual Bagel Eating Contest over at the Launch Pad in Huntington.
As this was a family oriented event, people came right at the nine o'clock starting time. Many of them came to get a great close up spot and got ready to witness the madness of what was about to go down. The contest started a little after 11 but that didn't matter as the people who came were treated to breakfast sponsored by Bagel Boss of Hewlett. While waiting for the contest to begin the on lookers enjoyed bagels of their own and had a wide and nice variety of cream cheeses to select from to go on top of their bagel. They also had the chance to enjoy some awesome looking bagel art and if they brought kids those youngsters were able to make some bagel art of their own using all different kinds of candy and food. Also on hand were the great people of Rock CAN Roll, a very cool organization who sets up at concerts to collect food for the needy. And of course a bagel event of any nature isn't complete without bagel chips. The Brooklyn Bagel Chip company had their table set up giving out free samples as well. So after enjoying what was around and after getting a good seat, it was time to start what everyone came to watch. Before the contest got underway, organizer Andrew Hazen called all the competitors to the back where they all went over the rules so everyone was in agreement and where all competitors signed their waivers. Once everything was agreed upon it was time. It was time. It was bagel eating time. The competitors exited the conference room and took their spot along the table in front of the ten bagels they had to devour in the five minute time frame. Before the buzzer went off, Hazen |
|
announced what was agreed. Competitors had their choice of putting cream cheese or butter on their bagels and the choice of soaking their bagels in water to soften the blow (which is very common in most speed eating competitions). The clock was then set. Five minutes was set. The crowd counted down and the clock started to move. All competitors started stuffing the bagels down as $500 cash was on hand and would be given to the winner. Among the daring was Mike Oliva from West Babylon, Matt from right around the block from the Launch Pad in Huntington and Tommy Vandenberg who took three trains from the city to make it. Wayne Algenio from Hollis who is a regular in food speed eating contests also made the adventure down to participate.
As far as the odds, the odds were stacked and the competition was tough but in the end it was Dix Hills own, Keith Tuzzolino who defeated the other six and walked away with the $500 prize. His total count was five whole bagels in the five minutes. Tuzzolino was approached by all media in attendance right after the victory and then he proudly walked over to his family that were there rooting him on as they celebrated.
The whole event was a lot of fun. Hazen and his crew did a great job in setting it up, organizing and running it and I'm sure everyone who attended would agree that it was worth the early am wake up to attend. We will see next year if Tuzzolino can keep his crown or give it up to a brand new bagel eating champion. Keep your eyes over at bagels.org for information on next years event and everything else bagels.

laced up! long island sneaker convention
|
The Cradle Of Aviation Museum in Garden City was transformed into the first annual Laced Up! The Long Island Sneaker Convention on Saturday, February 13. The main entrance was filled with about 30 vendors showcasing both old school style and new style sneakers that could have been bought for purchase along with many other "sneaker" related tables as well. As soon as you walked in, people were told to purchase their tickets. You also had the chance to buy a raffle for the main prize which was for pairs of very rare sneakers. The event was perfect for all those who enjoy buying and wearing different style of "kicks". The event was also designed for people to sell, restore and even get their sneakers customized. There was a definite variety of sneakers throughout the convention to look at. Old school Reebok Pumps to sneakers supporting Mickey Mouse on them could have been seen and even bought. One of the non sneaker vendors that were on hand was the very cool Family First Ltd company who had their display of awesome 516 and 631 designs. They are known for using the Long Island outline and replacing it with the "1" in both area codes. Family First were selling them on shirts, baseball caps and on winter hats. Convention goers even had the chance to take a picture in front of the official Laced Up step and repeat. And the sounds and mc'ing all came from DJ Scoota during the course of the afternoon and night. For a first time event, people seemed to enjoy their day. There are many yearly conventions that occur here at the COA but what made this one stand out to the rest was that it was the first in its kind in this immediate area. Many people were seen carrying boxes of their new sneakers that were just bought and they all looked like they were happy they made their way out for it. |
puddle of mudd at revolution in amityville
Revolution in Amityville recently played host to a completely packed and sold out crowd as the venue welcomed rockers Puddle Of Mudd to their stage. The crowd formed early to enjoy some of the local bands that played then found a spot as close to the stage as they possibly could for the headliners.
Puddle Of Mudd came out after a very nice reaction from the crowd and started their hour long set with the popular song and extended version of "Drift or Die" which lasted about ten minutes. You could tell that front man Wes Scantlin enjoyed the vibe that Revolution gave to him and the band as he was caught smiling and pointing out to the fans. He then cheered and saluted the club. The next song was "Psycho" which Scantlin gave the history behind the making of it. Scantlin said that while on a certain substance in his home in Hollywood Hills he noticed a person up in the hill and was wondering why they were always there. When he finally asked about it he was informed that it wasn't a person up there, but a statue. Hence the title "Psycho". The band then went on to play the song "Away From Me" but before, Scantlin wanted to thank Limp Bizkits Fred Durst and Korn which the crowd went crazy over for discovering and signing Puddle Of Mudd. Scantlin also announced that previously in the day they were part of |
|
a phone conversation where they resigned with Geffen Records. Scantlin had to promise them though that "they would be good, stay out of trouble, stay out of trouble and stay out of trouble". With the new signing, comes a new album which the band has titled "Galvanic" which is soon going to be dropped. Scantlin is also just finishing up an autobiography about his life. That project is called "Coming Clean" (resulting from the popular record from the band) which Scantlin said will cover from his growing up as baby until now.
Getting towards the end of the set, Puddle of Mudd covered Neil Youngs "Old Man" and then Wes gave a quick band intro. He also explained that he wasn't playing guitar that night due to hyper extending his thumb. That was probably the reason why he performed sitting on a bar stool for the set. The band then went into the popular song "Control" and added a very cool twist by squeezing in "War Pigs" from Ozzy.
Wes then asked for a shot of some Southern Comfort but was pleasantly surprised when a staff member presented him with an entire bottle. "She Hates Me" was next on the set list and again the band was able to add another surprise by playing "Summer Loving" in between. And of course the night was complete with the one song encore of the bands hit single "Blurry". At the conclusion, Scantlin told everyone to stick around and meet them by the merch table to hang and to join them in a drink or two.
The show was a huge crowd pleasure as everyone sang along and enjoyed the hits from back in Puddle of Mudds prime years of the late 90's to early 2000's. We here at LIME would like to thank our friend Rick Eberle of Rick Eberle Public Relations and Tom Angenbroich of Revolution for having us down to review the show.

ny guitar expo
|
The Freeport Rec Center should have been renamed the Freeport ROCK Center as the annual NY Guitar Expo took place there during the weekend of April 23-24. The Rec Center was packed during the entire weekend as guitar enthusiasts came to check out what was new and exciting, got stuff fixed or to learn a quick lesson or two. If you are a guitar player and wanted to see what was offered by the best both locally and nationally this was the expo for you.
The layout of the floor which consisted of three completely packed aisles were quite easy to navigate and move around to. As soon as you walked in you can tell that for any guitar fan or player your day was well spent. Popular vendors from both near and far were on hand with any questions you had or wanted to know anything about the type of guitar you play. Local and popular store Music Emporium of Bellmore was present and had a very nice and large display. As did Plainviews All Music. We also can't forget about Farmingdales D'Addario who were out there selling their popular picks and supplies. Making the trip from out of the area included ZoZo Guitars from Massachusetts and the Oriolo Guitar Company from not that far away in New Jersey. Their display was especially unique because they had some very cool custom made guitars on hand that featured such popular cartoon characters like Felix The Cat. Also present during the weekend were the friendly people from Guitarshoptees.com. By becoming a member, guitar fans receive a different t shirt every month containing a different guitar store from across the country. Another non guitar vendor were the awesome people of Indi Music T.V. They were there to show and tell people about their new studio. |
As an extra bonus for those who attended, NY Guitar Expo raffled off a Taylor 214ce Grand Auditorium acoustic guitar. All that was needed was for anyone to fill out the survey questions in the program guide that was handed out upon entry. Another bonus was that for the first 50 paid entries, you started the day off with a free pair of guitar strings from D'Addario. It is no surprise that this expo was in its fifth straight year as its always a huge success. Plans are already being made for 2017 and its sure one not to miss.
Amber Ferrari: Material Girl
If you have not heard of Amber Fearrari yet, well that is a mistake. Ferrari is one of Long Island's favorite and most popular singers. With an excellent voice and great talent, it is no surprise that Ferrari is a popular draw no matter where she plays. And that was the case recently over at the Patchogue Theater as Amber Ferrari presented her "Material Girl" show to a very pleased audience.
Fans of the 80's, fans of Madonna and fans of music in general came to the Patchogue Theater and did not leave disappointed at all. The show opened up with MC and comic, Ike Avelli. Avelli came on stage to get the crowd started and excited for what was about to occur. With some very witty lines and getting the crowd going, Avelli, introduced Ferrari and the show got under way. For the first half of the show Ferrari starts off by covering some of the classic 80's tunes that us on Long Island grew up with. Songs such as Journey's "Seperate Ways", the Eurythmic's "Sweet Dreams", Aerosmith's "Dream On" (which Ferrari nailed perfectly as much agreed upon throughout the audience) and to Sting's "SOS" was what Ferrari warmed the crowd up with during the first hour. After a short break it was then time for the main part of the show. The second half was Ferrari's "Material Girl" show as she covered the very best of pop icon Madonna. And just like the real Madonna, Ferrari's set included numerous costume changes that related to what Madonna would have worn during her concerts. Ferrari opened up "Material Girl", followed by "Burning Up" and "Dress You Up". For the very popular and fan favorite "Vogue", Ferrari was joined on stage by her three dancers. With matching outfits and even matching masks, the four put on an excellent rendition that would have made the pop icon proud. Continuing with the set, Ferrari covered "Get Into the Groove", "La Isla Bonita" and ended with "Express Yourself". |
|
Not only was the night perfect with some great covers from one of the most decorated decades of all time but the night was also dedicated for the release of Ferrari's new album titled "Where Your Wishes Fly" which was released that night. For those lucky in attendance, they had the opportunity to hear a few tracks from it.
The night was a lot of fun and again, Ferrari along with her band did such an amazing job from the choice of songs, to the covering of one of the worlds biggest music legends and to the sound. It was a tight show and definitely made the night very enjoyable. You can find more about Amber Ferrari by checking out her website over at AmberFerrari.com and all over social media as well.

wwe Raw pizza party at frankies East Side Pizza in Farmingdale with Hornswoggle and curt hawkins
|
Not only were WWE Wrestling fans treated to some great pizza and great food while watching WWE Monday Night Raw over at Frankies East Side (313 Main Street, Farmingdale) but they were also treated to a very good time with not only one , but two former WWE stars as Hornswoggle and Curt Hawkins were on hand to greet everyone in attendance and a whole lot more.
It is a fact and already understood that Frankies has the best food in the area but owner Dan Romano who is a huge wrestling fan himself really threw a great deal having Hornswoggle and Hawkins down to the restaurant. Romano advertised the event as a Raw Pizza Party and that was exactly what went down to a very pleased amount of people who were lucky to be part of it. Hornswoggle (who recently was unfortunately released by WWE) and Curt Hawkins (now owner and founder of CAP Wrestling School in Hicksville) were on hand to sign autographs, take pictures and hang out with the crowd. The both of them interacted with everyone in attendance throughout the night continuously talking and answering any questions anyone threw out at them. Hornswoggle can be best remembered as playing the "Leprechaun" that lived under the ring. The leprechaun gimmick was very comedic and always made the people laugh. Hawkins can best be remembered by being co owner of the tag team titles along side Long Island native Zack Ryder. For Hornswoggle however, his night was just not all fun and games as Romano threw Hornswoggle behind the counter to give him his personal pizza making lesson (as Romano does with every WWE Star he has visit). Now since Romano owns the best pizza place around it is very important to listen to his exact steps and directions so your pie comes out to perfection. Hornswoggle did his very best as he listened to Romano and it appeared that his pie came out just great. Once it was done, Romano brought it out to both Hornswoggle and Hawkins to try and the both seemed very pleased at the way it came out. As far as the rest of the night was concerned, fans were very excited to watch their favorite weekly wrestling show among the two former stars. It was a great deal for people to come out and be part of a once in a life time experience. |
And as stated once again owner Dan Romano is a huge wrestling fan and if you missed out on this event have no fear as he hosts appearances by wrestling stars about once every month. All the appearances are quite like no other as you always have time to interact and not feel rushed and only given seconds. We here at LIME are proud to be bringing you ALL the info of ALL future events at Frankies as we will be adding them to our calendar each and every time so make sure you check it out. And be sure to check out Frankies whether a wrestler is there or not because you will always go home happy.
Soul Asylum at the paramount
It was all aboard on the "Runaway Train" (Yes. We had to start off like that.) for many concert goers as Soul Asylum hit the stage at the very popular and always exciting Paramount in Huntington.
Soul Asylum took to the stage and rocked out just like we were still in the 90's and each and every fan in attendance that night loved every second of it. Singer and lead man Dave Pirner (who is the only original member of the band) still had it going as he along with the new band mates (Michael Bland on the drums, Winston Roye on bass and Justin Sharbono on guitar) that now make up the "Asylum" really made it a fun concert for all those who attended to relive some of the hits along with some new tracks off the bands latest. S.A. started off with an oldie in "Somebody To Shove". It was a real good choice to open with that one as the crowd got into it right away. They then went into "Marionette" followed by the another classic and fan favorite when they performed "Misery". "Black Gold" was followed a few tracks later before the band started playing a few new tracks off the "Change of Fortune" album which they are on tour in support of which was released in March. Tracks from "Change" that S.A. played included "Don't Bother Me", "Supersonic" and "Can't Help It". A few tracks later when Pirner changed to his acoustic guitar the Paramount crowd knew that one of the reasons why they came to the show was about to happen. S.A. then went into "Runaway Train" and had the concert goers all singing along. "Runaway Train" was the song that put the band on the map back in 1992 off the very popular "Grave Dancers Union" album. |
|
After already giving a top playing performance Soul Asylum came back on stage for a two song encore. "Doomsday" which was another new fresh title off the new album was played then the band went into "April Fool" from GDU to end the night.
And as stated earlier, Soul Asylum does have the new album out again titled "Change of Fortune" and it can be purchased at any electronic digital music source or wherever albums are sold. If you are a true fan of the band the album is highly recommended.

Dee snider's annual ride for charity
|
Long Islands own and singer/front man of the rock and roll hall of fame band Twisted Sister, Dee Snider sponsored his annual ride for charity at Lido Beach. Snider was joined with his fellow band mate, Mark "The Animal" Mendoza and a very large amount of the Long Island Motorcycle population as they rode once again to support the Harry Chappin Food bank at Long Island Cares to raise money to help feed the people of our island who can't afford to do so themselves.
This was the 14th Annual event but the fourth for this charity. It goes to show that it really doesn't matter what the charity or fundraiser is for, if there is a need it's always amazing to see the large turnout of riders to come together to raise the funds. The riders rode in a little before kick off to hang and to take a quick sneak peak at all the vendors that were on hand that were there to welcome the riders back and to be part of the post ride festivities. Once it was time, all riders returned to their bikes to head out. The route which always remains the same took the riders from the start at Lido all the way to the pencil at the turn around at Robert Moses and then back to Lido. It took about an hour and a half to have everyone return. Once that happened the fun continued. Upon returning, riders, friends and family spent the rest of the afternoon walking around getting something to eat or buying merchandise from local vendors. The major part of the post ride excitement was the entertainment that is always provided. Like every year, Joe Rock and The All Stars did their thing and played for the crowd. And of course it's not a Dee Snider event without the host getting up on stage to sing a song or two. This year he performed AC/DC's "Highway To Hell" followed by his bands "We're Not Going To |
Take It" which everyone proudly sang along to. Snider also presented some awards and recognition to important people who have been there since day one or who has helped out with the ride in a major way. One award was given to this years rides grand marshal, Elisa DiStefano of News 12. DiStefano attends and supports the ride each and every year, so selecting her to be the grand marshal was a very cool choice.
Snider also makes himself available to anyone who wants to say hello or to take a picture. Even if he just came off a busy night the night before playing with his band Twisted Sisters farewell tour. The ride was another great success and everyone is looking forward to planning number fifteen in 2017.
EDITORS NOTE: Please check out our video section to watch an exclusive interview with Dee and also another interview conducted with Joe Rock and Mark "The Animal" Mendoza of Joe Rock and The All Stars.

live comedy at gyrolicious
Five of Long Island's finest and funniest comedians got together over at Gyrolicious LI of Jericho to put on a very funny show for all those who attended. Hosted by Pat Marone, the show highlighted comedians retired NYPD Sergeant Frank Failla, Tugboat Manny, Mike Keegan and the headliner, Maria Walsh.
The night got started with Marone coming on the stage to say some quick jokes before bringing on Failla. Marone who is very well known around the comic circuit here around Long Island has also been in some films and shows such as: A Bronx Tale, Analyze That and even on Americas Funniest Videos a handful of times. When Marone is not making people laugh he can be seen in the kitchen at a local assisted living facility where he is a five star chef. When Marone was done breaking in the crowd with laughter, it was time to bring on the first comedian. And that was none other then former member of New York's finest, Mr. Frank Failla. Failla, of North Merrick got the crowd going as he was the opener of the nights festivities. Failla got a nice applause when he announced he was retired from the force and rightfully deserved. Failla made some funny jokes referencing phone chargers to UNC (University of Nassau County) when referring to Nassau Community College to why people clap when an airplane lands. Failla put on a great set to pave the way for the rest of the line up. Tugboat Manny was up next. Tugboat Manny (Manny Erias) is another Long Island stand up who has been all around the area. He is even performing as part of a very big comedy show happening over at Westbury Music Fair where he will be taking the stage with other great comedians from the area. Tugboat receives a lot of laughs no matter if he is playing big venues such as in Westbury or this night over at Gyrolicious. He is very well known and always gets a very positive feedback from wherever he is performing. Tugboat also recently hosted his very own "Tugboat Manny You Bet Your Lifesaver Game Show" over at White Post Farms. Next to the stage was funny man Mike Keegan. Keegan of East Meadow is another comic who knows how to keep the laughs flowing. Keegan joked that he has played all over including the Borgata, to Mohegan Sun to here at Gyrolicious which he jokingly referred to as the "Gyro Store". Making joke after joke, story after story the crowd over at this "gyro store" knew that with the three comedians up already, the price was worth the admission. Having the three up there, not even with the headliner yet made the night very enjoyable for all. When Keegan was all finished it was then time to bring up that very funny headliner. Maria "Long Islands Naughtiest Mother" (as she was introduced) Walsh and the only female of the evening was your headliner for this evening. Walsh who is a resident of East Northport and a Harvard alum right away got into her routine which pretty much was all about Long Island. She also focused on one group throughout the night |
|
pointing at one of the jobs they had as a manager at Marshalls. Walsh put on a very funny routine that made the already awesome and funny night even better.
Now since the venue was at a restaurant, we would like to thank Gyrolicious for having us down to check out this show. Not only was it very funny with a group of extremely talented stand ups, but everyone was also treated to some great Greek food with a very friendly staff. Gyrolicious is located at 24A in Jericho on Jericho Tpke. Go check them out.

b52's at The Space at westbury
|
With so many ways to celebrate the Halloween holiday here on our great island, one must think to start it off the best way possible. And if you were one of the many people who packed it in over at The Space in Westbury to watch the B52's make their return to this lovely venue situated on Post Avenue, then my friend your weekend started off spectacular. Or should we say "Spooktacular".
You see, the B52's have played here a few times in recent years but this night was different. This was the B52's Halloween edition. What does that mean? Well that means if Halloween is being celebrated and you have such a big and popular band hitting the stage you the concert goer (and said band included) better bring you "A" game when it comes to dressing up in costume. A good amount who attended did show up wearing their Halloween best and so did the B52's. Known for being one of the best party bands out there and still doing their thing today, the B52's came on stage and rocked like they never rocked before. The backing to their new band was on point and everyone enjoyed their hour and twenty minute set. Of course the classics ("Roam", "Love Shack") were performed as well as "Rock Lobster" which the band saved as part of the encore. The band opened up with "Cosmic" which was then followed by "Mesopotamia" and "Lava". The band also "left" Westbury for one song as they told everyone they were in Idaho referencing the song "Private Idaho". The night certainly did turn into a party for this "party band" and The Space was certainly the perfect place to host. It is no wonder why the B52's keep on returning. After all we here on Long Island know and appreciate good music when we hear it and always appreciate it no matter if its is old or current. The Space also has The Lounge which is located right before you enter the main part of the venue. It is a small bar type of area that hosts bands as well before the main band hits the main stage. On this night that was where you could have found Long Island veterans who make up the awesome and always fun band Iridesense. Serving some of their best the pop rock band was a solid way to begin the night. And just like the B52's served up their best, Iridesense did the same as they performed such songs like "Life" and "Got It Good". Towards the end of their set and things were about to wrap up for the LI natives, the band asked the crowd which song they would like to |
hear out of "Holiday" and "Gasoline". Getting applause for both the band decided to please both sides and perform both. Iridesense has been rocking the island for quite a while and this band of family members are a must see if you have the chance.
Before we end, we would just like to shout out Rick Eberle of Rick Eberle Public Relations and The Space for having us down as guests so we may review this awesome and fun show.

Halloween Pub Crawl with long island social events
In conjunction with Long Island Social Events, we here at LIME ventured out and joined our new friends during their annual Halloween Pub Crawl out in Huntington as their official media outlet. Oh yeah. And we were also joined with about 300 people as well who all got together, dressed in some awesome and creative costumes having an awesome time all at the same time in helping out a real cool charity as well. Pub Crawlers who spent the money to join in the festivities had their money go to the charity group called Kids Need More. "More" is a charity that devotes their time by helping kids that unfortunately have cancer. So what does it look like when like we said already about 300 people all dressed in costume take over a towns Main Street area for a day? It looks pretty damn cool and fun. And for those who were not part of it and was wondering what the hell was going on, well since they weren't part of it: SUCKS. FOR. THEM. Just kidding to those who that refers to BUT you really did miss out on something quite unique. Everyone was informed that the bar to start the crawl was over at Christopher's and that the check in time was at 2 p.m. Upon entering Christopher's, that is where you were greeted by James Weiner, Bryan Milano and Kevin Kelly, founders of Long Island Social Events. More on them to follow. After being checked in and handed your wrist band it was time to let the games begin. People started showing up right |
|
away to get their moneys worth and beer/alcohol worth as the bar was pretty much filled right from check in time. The bar became increasingly filled as the time went on. Crawlers came in from all directions. Some who drove down. Some by taxi. Some by having someone else drive them. Whatever way people got there, Huntington was definitely the spot of the afternoon. Beer and Drink specials were also on hand through out the Crawl that made the day even sweeter.
After about an hour or so, a large amount of people from Christopher's started venturing out to the next stop which was a quick little walk to Finley's. Finley's was a popular spot as it had a lot more space and more importantly, the Coors Light promotional staff that was also on hand and tagging along for the ride started handing out free beer to everyone around. Finley's also had a nice outdoor seating area that a handful of crawlers discovered and enjoyed.
The third stop of the Pub Crawl we found ourselves over at Nags Head. Nags Head was a more popular spot if you wanted to get a quick drink, talk and hang then head out to the next stop as it did fill up rather quickly. After Nags Head, the fourth stop was down the block to the Village Tavern. It was there that the Miller Lite Girls started to greet everyone and do their thing.
The end of the night and the last stop on the Crawl was over at the popular Mary Carroll's. Already feeling quite good, the Crawlers who were still on hand and there were still many seemed to enjoy their final stop. You could tell because the atmosphere there was like this was the only place they have been to all day. Inside. Outside. People were still partying and having a great time. And hey. Isn't that what its all about?
The annual Halloween Pub Crawl was without a doubt, a huge success. Our friends Long Island Social Events put on a great "show" which is why so many crawlers attend. Weiner, Milano and Kelly decided to start this side business in a way to give back to the community. They have been around for about three years now and have absolutely no intentions on slowing down. They put together these crawls to hang with friends and receive nothing except positive feedback.
The best way for you to join them on future crawls is to check out them out over on their site at longislandsocialevents.com. They organize these events around big holidays. We here at LIME hope you attend at least one to see what the excitement is all about.

Fans of rock were treated to an excellent and awesome night of music when they attended the Kings Of Chaos show over at The Paramount in Huntington. In what was a very special night of some great music, all those in attendance walked away very pleased and happy. The Kings Of Chaos is a super band made up of a great collection of artists from a range of popular bands. Members include: Chester Bennington of Linkin Park, Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top, Robin Zander of Cheap Trick, Matt Sorum of Guns N Roses and Velvet Revolver, Robert Deleo of Stone Temple Pilots, Steve Stevens from Billy Idol and finally, The Cults Billy Duffy. The Paramount was one of the lucky venues to land this tour as the band made a very few select East Coast dates.
Chester, Billy and Robin took turns throughout the night and alternated being the lead front man. Chester came out first and opened the show perfoming STP's "Vasoline" He also was the one who performed all the STP songs that night which included: "Interstate Love Song" and "Sex Type Thing". Chester did an incredible job performing them as rightfully said. Remember. It was Bennington who took over for Weiland for a brief time as the lead singer of STP, which also was a show that The Paramount hosted. Bennington also lead his throne to belt out Billy Idols's "White Wedding" and The Cults "Fire Woman" After the three songs, Bennington exited stage left to hand it over to Zander who came out to perform his own "Hello There", "Surrender" and "I Want You To Want Me". Gibbons was up next as he performed a handful of his own ZZ Top Songs including the popular |
"Sharp Dressed Man".
When the three were done with their opening routines, the stage was then set for the band to come out and do an acoustic set. The fans seemed to like this change at the beginning as it made the night more intimate. Steve Stevens even performed a great guitar solo that got the crowd riled up even more. And we can't forget to mention Sorums tribute to the late, great Remmy of Motorhead as he played duel parts as the drummer and singer to "Ace Of Spades".
So as you can tell, the night really played tribute to some definite classics in bands, music and legends. Those members who make up the Kings truly seemed like their own band as the chemistry between each one was just truly remarkable. And don't worry. Even though the Kings did cause some absolute chaos (and in a good way), the roof managed to stay on to this very beautiful Huntington venue.

nye with bush at the paramount
With so many options one could have selected to help celebrate and ring in the new year, if you selected to go to The Paramount to see 90's rock band legends Bush we believe you made a very good choice. Gavin Rossdale and the rest of the band returned to the venue after just playing here back in May. Not only did they bring their "A-Game" but Bush played to a very pleased and very energetic Huntington crowd.
The band played all their hits and fan favorites through out the night leaving everyone who attended happy knowing they ended one year, and started the next in the perfect location. The band came out to the roar of the crowd and started their evening getting right into things by playing "Everything Zen" off their freshman Sixteen Stone album. The band then followed that with "Prize Fighter" then breaking into the "Chemicals Between". Another song that the band performed that got a very strong reaction was to "Sound Of Winter". With playing all the songs, the band also played to a very cool light show and video screen from beginning to end. As the time got closer to midnight the band stopped performing as the video screen was tuned into Times Square (the shows start time was pushed back so the band can celebrate NYE with their fans in attendance). The band invited their friends and family to the stage with about two minutes to the ending of 2016. Rossdale was entertaining the crowd and when the countdown started, he led the entire venue. When the clock struck midnight and after the crowd welcomed in 2017 it was back to business and it was back to what the people came to see. Bush began the new year by performing a very familiar song from a very familiar band by performing the Beatles "Come Together". The band also played the very popular "Little Things" and just like he did back in May, Rossdale made this song |
|
more interactive by jumping off the stage and entering into the crowd. Now, I'm sure you are saying to yourself that many bands do that. And yes they do. But not only did Rossdale come off the stage and perform in front of the people, he made sure EVERYONE got up and close and by that we mean he made his way through out the ENTIRE venue. GA Floor to the seats upstairs, Rossdale made his way around before finally returning to the stage which was very cool to see. "Machinehead", another very popular Bush song was played but it didn't come so easy to one of the bands roadies. As Rossdale was singing, it appeared there was a problem with his ear plug that had to be fixed. It took the roadie pretty much the entire song to get it fixed to which amused the crowd and even to Rossdale after he was caught laughing at the delay in getting it corrected.
Now we always have nothing to say but the best of The Paramount and after this review that still is the case. We have such an awesome venue right here in Huntington that always hosts great and fantastic shows just like this one. Many of you have been there already and know exactly what we mean but if you haven't yet please check out their calendar at theparamountny.com and do yourself a favor and attend a show there. Happy New Year LIME Heads!!!!!

Sum 41 at the paramount
|
Making their return to the ever so popular Paramount stage, Sum 41 rocked the place just like they did when they were here last back in November of 2012. And the crowd really appreciated and got into the just about 60 minute set right from the start. Sum 41 is a band that plays with such energy that seeing them live is definitely a must. With so many hits that are favorites for the last seventeen years or so, Sum 41 treated this performance like they were just brought onto the scene.
The band broke into the hits right away by opening up with "The Hell Song". It was an excellent choice to open up with because the crowd started jumping around right from the first note. The set list was then followed by other fan favs such as "Over My Head" and "Motivation". Now if you reading this we are almost positive that you have been to a concert or two in you lives. And we have all heard the gracious concert filler from the lead singer of whatever act you have seen ("This is the best show on the tour so far" or "________ is the best city we have played"). But when lead man Deryck Whibley said it on this night, the Huntington crowd knew it was sincere. And why not? The Paramount always packs it in and you always get such an incredible show and time. So yes, Mr. Whibley even though the crowd that you saw in Huntington is not following you around, they all know that your stop at The Paramount was truly the best on the tour. The band also played a very "rockish" (I think we just created a new word here at LIME) rendition of the very well known "We Will Rock You". When Whibley started playing the tune, he invited all in attendance to sing along as he knew everyone would know the lyrics to join in. Whibley also informed the crowd that "Sum 41 is all about family and on this night you are all part of our family". The crowd really liked that and it got your rock concert set of screams and applause. |
Derck and the boys ended their set with probably the two most popular Sum 41 songs. "In too Deep" was played which not only had he concert goers still jump up and down but made the floor jump as well. It was at the conclusion of the song that Deryck went into thanking the crowd by saying "Thank You" a few times and then wanted the lights turned back on so he can see everyone's faces again. "Fat Lip" ended the night and which resulted in yet another excellent appearance and performance from the band from the country "Up North" on the stage located on Main Street in Huntington.
good charlotte at the paramount
Yet another band from back in the day took the gracious Paramount stage recently when rock band Good Charlotte made Huntington a stop on their "Youth Authority" tour. After making a comeback after about five years, the boys of GC performed to a packed Paramount crowd like they never even left in the first place.
GC came out and performed with such high energy which resulted in the full house to get into it right from the very first note. With so many hits and fan favorites, the entire night was filled with hit after hit after hit and fan favorite after fan favorite with the throw in of a few new tunes as well. A perfect example is how the night all started. The band opened with their popular tune "The Anthem", followed by "The Story Of My Old Man" then it was off to "Bloody Valentine". It was in the middle of that song that Joel Madden stopped to greet the crowd. During the greeting he told the Long Island concert goers that "More shows should happen outside the city". Madden also asked the crowd if it was their first time seeing the band to about half the crowd reacted. The other half have seen the band at least once before. Madden also went on to say that he "Feels like he knows everyone and that if we all went to high school together we would all have been best friends." That also went over very well with the crowd to a large cheer. The night was all about reminiscing as the band made numerous references to their previous touring years and especially when they asked the crowd if they grew up with them during elementary school, middle school or high school. When GC broke out and played "Riot Girl", Madden stopped towards the end again and told the masses at The Paramount that he "Wasn't sure if playing it was a good idea becasue not that many people may know it." He also went on to say that song now has a new meaning to it as he is now the father to a nine year old girl which he told the audience that she was his best |
|
friend. He then also went on to say that the world is going through some serious stuff right now and then said that he asked his daughter "Who is going to save the world?" to which she replied "I will save the world." The whole night was just like that with telling stories and bringing up the past which everyone really enjoyed.
GC continued their set with all the other hits including "Girls and Boys", to "Young and Hopeless", to the very first song that introduced us all to Good Charlotte that being "Little Things". Also on the set list was "I Don't Want To Be In Love" and closed out the very exciting night with the fan favorite "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous". Off the brand new album "Youth Authority" the band played their first single "Life Changes".
Good Charlotte is known for playing popular music festivals but whether its there or headlining their own show, if they come back and you missed them this time, it would be a good idea not to miss it. And like always, The Paramount was such and awesome host and spot to attend this show just like any show they hold.

fozzy at 89 North
|
There was a "Main Event" which was highlighted by a very popular professional wrestling star and the event didn't even occur in a wrestling ring. It all went down when pro wrestler superstar Chris Jericho brought his rock band Fozzy to the area as they hit the stage over in Patchogue at 89 North.
Chris Jericho, or "Y2J" as he is known in the wrestling world and his band Fozzy made a stop to us here on Long Island in support of their "Judas Rising Tour" and fans were treated to such a rock star performance. It was very hard to believe for all those in attendance (which obviously was made up of all wrestling fans) that the lead singer standing right there in front of them was one of their faves they are so very use to standing in front of a wrestling ring every Monday or Tuesday night. The crowd was very excited to be part of this very special and cool night and you could tell that by just walking in to 89 North as everyone couldn't wait for Fozzy to hit the stage. Since their name is Fozzy, it was only appropriate to come out to a song played by Ozzy. And once that was done Jericho and the rest of the band came out and played like they have been doing this as their main gig all of their lives. The band as a whole played as if they were in front of thousands of fans and they got right into things by playing their newest single titled "Judas". It seemed like a lot of people knew the new track and rightfully so. During their set, Jericho did inform everyone that 2.7 million people have already watched the video on YouTube. Other songs that were performed by Fozzy were "Do You Want To Start A War" and "Tonight". The band also performed a cover on this evening and that was from the band Krokus as they performed their song "Eat The Rich". "Sandpaper", another Fozzy original and fan favorite was also played. One of the highlights of the night though was done when Jericho wasn't singing. Jericho who was actually born here on Long Island (Manhasset) told the fans that "Even though I was born here, for two weeks I've been having a hard time trying to pronounce the name of this town". He then went on to say "On the count of three I want everyone to yell the correct way to say it". So on the count of three the packed house yelled PATCHOGUE to clear up any confusion. Another highlight was when Jericho towards the end of their set put on his trademark light up jacket which made the crowd go even more wild. If you are reading this and you are a wrestling fan you know exactly when we are talking about. If you attended this show you know that you got your moneys worth and walked out very pleased. The show was nothing less then great and having 89 North as the host was such a perfect spot for it. |
wannabe: Spice girls tribute band
During the summer months, we here on Long Island have quite a few venues to select from to enjoy many different free concerts. No matter what park or venue you chose, one thing is always the same for all and that is you leave happy after having a great and fun time. And after Tanner Park in Copiague and The Town of Babylon hosted Wannabe, The Spice Girls Tribute band, that theory held very strong.
The crowd started arriving early (as most crowds tend to do for these outdoor shows) to anxiously await the start. Wannabe, who hail from Toronto, Canada are not strangers to Long Island. They have made their presence felt on a few occasions and always draw a nice size audience. The girls who not only do such an excellent job singing and performing as the actual Spice Girls, but they dress and act just like the real group would. It actually makes you feel they are in front of you and not a tribute band. The girls came on stage and started things off right away with the hit from the Spice Girls and the reasoning behind their name, "Wannabe". Even though all those at the park on this wonderful evening was pumped up enough, opening the set with this track just got everyone in that much of a better and excited mood. Following that came another SG classic when Wannabe performed "Say You'll Be There". Other SG hits and classics were also sung such as " 2 Become 1", and of course ending the show with "Spice Up Your Life". The girls also changed things up a little by doing awesome covers. One being "Like A Prayer" by Madonna, "Dancing Queen" and "Lady Marmalade". The concert was enjoyed by all and it was a real good time hearing Wannabe perform those songs that brought back memories of a such a great decade of music. After the show, the girls were spotted by many of their young fans and even took the time to go meet them and pose for some pictures. Wannabe will surely make their way back to our area in the future in case you missed them this time around. Keep checking back here as we will bring you that exact information. |

22nd Annual east northport fair
|
The 22nd Annual East Northport Fair took place and it was all thanks to once again, the great people of the East Northport Chamber Of Commerce. The event which went through the entire weekend of September 8-10 did not disappoint all that came down and flooded the street and the John J. Walsh Memorial Park. As Long Islanders, we know a good fair when we see one and if you attended this years E. Northport's you know exactly what we mean. Perfect weather also was the key that made this years another successful one.
Before entering the park, fair goers had the chance to stroll down Larkfield Road to meet and check out some great vendors. Vendors had their tents all set up and their workers on hand to say hello to all. One of the vendors in attendance was The Paramount from neighboring Huntington. They were there to promote the upcoming shows and to answer any questions people may have had about their awesome venue. After strolling down Larkfield, the main part of the fair was what was next over at John J Walsh Memorial Park. Everywhere you looked there was a ride to go on, food to be bought and eaten, a local band or local musician to be heard and even a Doughnut Eating Contest to be watched. There was something for everyone at this years fair and by the way things went, the town is probably counting down the days for next years. One of the vendors that were set up inside the park was All American Wontons. They were giving out free samples of their incredible little creations. As you made your way through, there were many great food choices to be had. The most popular choice and had the biggest line was the yellow food trailer that was run by Road House Empanadas and Wings. All food was cooked by the very popular Danny Wiseman which was the main reason why they had the longest line. The empanadas and wings were flying and a huge hit with everyone who decided to select Road House as their eating choice. And whats a fair without a little entertainment. Entertainment was well represented throughout the entire weekend.. If you wanted music, you had it. And not only was it great but it was all local as some of our islands best took to the stage. Craving Strange. Last Turn Off |
Broadway to name a couple. And let us not forget about the Doughnut Eating Contest. Fair Goers who had a hungry appetite and wanted to stuff their faces signed up to see how many Dunkin Doughnuts they can fit in the mouths and stomachs. Many people crowded around to watch the madness enfold. Competitors were given two minutes to see how many doughnuts from the box that was placed in front of them can go down.
East Northport really out did themselves and really put on a good show for people of all ages. Keep your eyes out for next years dates by following the Chamber on social media.

WBAB/WBLi's 1st annual Food truck festival
All roads (literally) led to one location on Saturday, October 7 and that one destination was to the NYCB Theatre at Westbury. That was because WBAB 102.3 and WBLI 106.1 held their first annual Food Truck Festival. Traffic was backed up on the Wantagh and surrounding roads as Long Islanders flocked the venue to be part of this epic inaugural event.
Once battling traffic on the roads and coming down the hill to park, event goers hopped on the line that grew quite rapidly upon entering the gates and getting their "game" on. An expected turnout of people and then some showed up to try some of the islands best food trucks and food vendors around. Once you entered the next question was what way to go and what to eat. Situated to the left of the concert venue, the festival was set up in a perfect location as it gave all who attended a nice view of what was there and what was on hand. Obviously, the main focus was on the trucks around the perimeter as well as what food was served under some tents. There was your definite wide choice of varieties as food trucks serving Greek (Two Greeks To Go), Italian (courtesy of On The Scene Cuisine with celebrity chef Gail Chandler), bbq, desserts to everything in between was available. Also, if you were thirsty, a simple trip to visit the Kona Ice Long Island was a poplar decision that day as well. The non food truck vendors who served food were also a big hit as the entire day was a giant food frenzy. And we all know as a Long Islander, we love our food. Dough Me a Flavor who is rather new to our taste buds (opened in July in Wantagh) had a busy line through out the day as they were selling their newly famous and outrageous doughnuts. The Jericho Cider Mill who is extremely popular especially around this time of the year were also in attendance selling their famous and very well known Apple Cider and fall goodies. A very big and long line belonged to All American Won-tons as people waited and waited to taste these little new sensations. Once you grabbed your food, the festival set up a nice area of tables |
|
and chairs where you and your party could sit and relax and enjoy the tastes of what you finally decided on. And of course once you finished you were just steps away from getting up and going to try something new.
If you got tired of eating for a little while there was still plenty to do. Non food vendors were also set up throughout. The New York Jets were on hand giving away prizes and having people practice their throwing, you could have played a competitive game of corn-hole and even stopped by the WBAB and WBLI tents (who were the hosts) to say hello. A beer garden was also set up if you wanted to take part in a little adult time as well.
With the amount of people who turned up, it was no surprise that this event was a huge success. If you are reading this and you missed out, we are sorry. All we can say is check back with us for any info regarding a second festival either here or by checking out venue.thetheatreatwestbury.com/

jewel: handmade holiday tour at nycb at westbury
|
Just days before the Christmas holiday, fans who made their way to the theater at NYCB at Westbury were treated to a winter wonderland of their own. The famed half round stage at Westbury which was decked out with trees, snow and festive lights was all set to welcome Jewel as she brought her Handmade Holiday Tour to our area.
Jewel, who brought her father and two brothers on the road to support her on this tour couldn't have picked a better venue to showcase her talents. Having the show at the half round was just a perfect set up as it made the show very intimate. It was so intimate that during many points of the show, Jewel could be heard interacting with fans in their seats as she asked which songs they would like to hear during her performance. Hence the title to this tour, the "Handmade Holiday Tour", it only made sense that Jewel played some classic and popular holiday tunes. Starting off the set, Jewel performed "Joy To The World" as her opener, followed by "The Christmas Song", "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" and then "O Holy Night". Even though the theme was the holidays, Jewel also performed a good amount of non holiday songs including one of her new songs named "Mercy". And what is a Jewel show without some of her hits. The first hit song that Jewel sang was "Hands". But before Jewel belted out the popular track she explained to the Westbury crowd how the song came about. Now, if you are a fan you probably know |
basically already about Jewels struggles and hardships she encountered to become recognized and how it all eventually led to her fame today, but she really went into detail and opened up to the crowd. She explained how she was living homeless in her car in the streets of San Diego and how she got violently sick in her car while sitting in the parking lot of a local San Diego Hospital. We will leave out the not so pretty highlights of that day out, but it led to one of the doctors working that day coming out to save her. Jewels story is quite amazing and inspiring which is why so many people look up to her.
Continuing with the set and her hits, "You Were Meant For Me", "Foolish Games" and "Who Will Save Your Soul". The show wrapped up with a few more holiday tunes which included "Let It Snow" where bubbles (acting as snow) filled the air to close things out.
Jewel not only put on this tour to come out to sing and to perform, but this tour was also set up with a purpose and a message. Since Jewel and the Kilcher family grew up in Alaska, where they had to pretty much grow and raise everything on their own on their property, Jewel wanted to send that message to all fans in all cities that the tour stopped at. The main theme to this "Homemade Holiday Tour" was to promote the making of gifts to give to family and friends rather then buying and she also expressed more then once that it is better to make from the heart.
The concert was very well put together and it definitely made everyone get more in the holiday mood if they weren't 100% there yet. It was a very entertaining and joyful show that was a perfect way to continue the festive holiday season.

Cradle con 2018
When you visit the Cradle Of Aviation Museum in Garden City, you normally would go to learn about many heroes of the aviation world. Well, during the weekend of June 23-24 not only could you learn about them but you could have also learned about all your favorite super heroes as well. The reason: The Inaugural Cradle Con. Yep. You read that correct. Cradle Con is the creation by the museum and might we add that they had a very, very successful debut.
With the entire museum filled with all sorts of things a fan of pop culture and comics would enjoy the COA Museum did not disappoint any fan that attended. As soon as you walked in, you could see that the money spent to enter would all be worth it. Example. Lets just got ahead and lay out the main area on the first floor. Table after table of awesome local vendors showcasing their most popular comics, figures, unique items, memorabilia and more was available for Con goers to look at and purchase. All vendors greeted all attendees and took their time to say hello and discuss what they had brought. Vendors such as Island Collectibles, to the Caped Justice Jewelry and Collectibles (where the owner came dressed as Super Man), to Lee Quinn and her awesome character hand painted glasses, just to name a few were all present. And that was all just in the front of the museum. As you walked into the main area of the museum, that is where many of the featured guests were at their |
|
tables to greet their fans. Guests included world famous gamer, Kat "Mystik" Gunn from California to "The Guy of 1,000 Voices", Mr. Larry Kenney (voice of Lion-o from Thunder Cats, the Coo-Coo Bird from Co Co Puffs cereal to the Count of the Count Dracula cereal). Even the Harmontown crew were there doing a pod cast for their very popular pod cast series. Guests from all aspects of the wonderful pop culture/comic world that we all enjoy were there which made this event more unique and fun. And like we said earlier. This was just on the FIRST floor.
The 2nd floor was filled from end to end with a variety of such awesome and talented artist that brought their sketches, and drawings for people to scan through. Artists such as Keith Ciaramello (who also spent some time doing work for the WWE including being the designer of one of their championship belts), Tom Travers and Eddie Avilla of Day One The Comic along with so many more were set up and also took their time to talk to who ever stopped by to say hello.
COS Play Contests for all ages were also part of the weekend as many people sported their very best COS Play to show off to those people who did not. Walking around was Chewbacca to the Stay Puff Marshmallow Man could have been seen walking the museum. For this one weekend, the COA really out did themselves as they made the whole experience most enjoyable for those that made it out. Couldn't make the fun for 18? No worries as plans for a second Cradle Con for 2019 are already in the works. And you can bet you will be able to find all the info about it right here at LIME. Keep a look out.

vic dibitetto live at nycb Theatre at westbury
You know him from his insanely popular viral videos such as "Bread and Milk", or the ones where he goes on "Rants" of various topics or you might even know him from his role in the movie "Mall Cop 2" but for a sold out crowd in the half round at the NYCB Theatre at Westbury, Vic DiBitetto will be known as a Comedian Master Mind. The reason? Since the minute the Brooklyn native took the stage, until the minute he walked off, DiBitetto had the crowd laughing and enjoying his entire set.
After being introduced and taking the famed stage, DiBitetto asked the crowd to do a wave to get the night going. Not really expecting the crowd to actually do it, DiBitetto was happy that the crowd responded and did it through out the entire half round. And not only did they do it once. But the wave did it make it around about three times. When the crowd finished, it was show time. DiBitetto, who performs yearly at Westbury makes his show bigger and better each time. His ultimate goal is to sell out the entire venue. He even stated during this nights performance "That it will happen one day". With the way he performed, we here at LIME know that without a doubt it certainly will. Like his videos of various ideas, that is how DiBitetto's set went. Ranging from jokes about how he "likes" (using the word like sarcastically) the store Home Goods, to the traffic problem our area has. The show started at 8:00 with DiBitetto taking the stage around 9:00. Since he resides in New Jersey, DiBitetto jokingly said that he "Started the drive in the morning but just arrived about an hour ago". Other jokes and references were about his kids and how lazy they were due to technology. One story DiBitetto mentioned to the crowd was that he was cleaning the attic and wanted his kids to help. But he said "Since there isn't an app to How to Find the Attic, his kids wouldn't be able to assist". Towards the end of the evening. DiBitetto |
opened the floor to a Question and Answer session where a few audience members were able to yell to Vic which he did respond to each and every one of them. Another part of his performance that he does during each of them is his shout out to all First Responders and Military Veterans who were in the house.
DiBitetto, who is no stranger to Long Island never disappoints. Reactions around the venue were quite similar having people say "That the dude is Hilarious". Opening up the show, DiBitetto had two very funny women. Starting the night and getting the crowd going was Marion Grodon then it was time for Carie Karavas. Both who were quite phenomenal as well.
Next time you see the name Vic DiBitetto advertised in the area, do yourself a favor and try to attend. You will be glad that you did. For upcoming dates or to follow him, check out his website at VicDiBitetto.net

Mac n' cheese challenge
Perfect weather. A perfect location. A great day of fun. What else could anyone ask for? Really not much. And that is exactly what people got when they attended Drift 82 in Patchogue for their Mac N' Cheese Challenge.
Situated on the back dock of Patchogue's Drift 82, the host restaurant had the ideal spot to host this extraordinary event. Restaurants from around the town of Patchogue (Brick House, Oar, Del Fuego and even the host Drift 82 participated as well) just to name a few were invited to come down to set up and serve the people in attendance their most popular flavor of mac n' cheese. There was a lot of it being served and everyone was as good as the next making it some very tough competition. With so many different varieties of mac n' cheese to try, having people pick their favorite was extremely difficult. Mac n' cheese with lobster. With seafood. With bacon. With chicken. To a traditional old fashioned version. If you were here and a mac n cheese fan, you were in the right spot for this particular afternoon. People non stop during the event kept on going up for seconds and even thirds to their favorite restaurants tables as what was being served to them was really a cool deal. With a really reasonable price entrance fee, and the all you can eat/try mac n cheese you can handle, Drift 82 really knocked this event out of the park. Everyone |
|
clearly enjoyed themselves. Even the outdoor bar at Drift was an extremely popular place to visit in between tastings as they had the drinks flowing all afternoon. And whats a great day of food and drink without some great entertainment. Music was provided by one of Long Islands best cover bands The Shore Things. The Shore Things provided the music of all of the classic 80's 90's and today hits as mac n cheese enthusiasts paraded around trying some of the best.
With all the fun and excitement, it was time for business as the final tallies were counted. As we stated earlier, with tough competition all around it was probably very hard for someone to pick their favorite. But when all the votes were in, Brick House was declared the winner for 2018. Who will win for 2019 is anyone's guess but I'm sure the restaurants involved this year are already planning on how to step up their games. We guess we will have to wait and see.

Honey Festival
|
The Cradle Of Aviation Museum as we know it is the home to many different artifacts of the great aviation world especially from moments right here on our great island. But quite often our COA Museum becomes hosts to many different and unique events and nothing could have been "sweeter" then the first ever Honey Festival. Put on by the Baum Image Group (the same great people who put on the ever so popular Chocolate Expo which is also held at he COA), the inaugural Honey Fest was a huge hit and a very popular choice to attend among all ages.
People in groups. Families. Food and Honey enthusiasts were treated to a day full of sweetness from the first steps into the museum throughout the entire venue. Food vendor after food vendor to even a bunch of Honey Flavored Liqueurs were set up occupying every space of the museums first floor greeting event attendees, answering any questions they may have had and some even giving away samples of their product. Anything an everything from honey products to even some non honey products were on hand to try and to purchase. One of the most popular vendors that were on hand were the Goodway Gourmet Rum Cake Company. Having their homemade rum cakes on hand and in their many varieties had many people visiting trying out the samples that Goodway provided. And whats a Honey Fest without some great honey products. Jars of homemade fresh honey, to the very popular flavored honey sticks (because whats a Honey Fest with out them) to other many great |
"sweet" products were all out and on deck. Another popular vendor that was busy throughout the day was the infamous Chocolate Fountain from the Auroa Gourmet Company. They were non stop dipping fruit to marshmallows to rice crispy treats in the fountain for the peoples enjoyments and more importantly, their taste buds.
The Baum Image Group definitely succeeded in this first ever event. And its really without any surprise as an event put on by them is always top notch and first class. Like stated above, Baum is the company that puts on the always sold out Chocolate Expo so you know right there how well events by them can be.

food truck fridays
Long Island!!!!! We now have a new reason to enjoy our Fridays. Sure Fridays mean the end of a work week and two days off. Sure it could mean a trip to the bank for pay day. But now we can add Food Truck Fridays back to the list. Yep. You just read that correctly. Food. Truck. Fridays. And its back. The location: In the back parking lot of the church at 3434 Hempstead Tpke in Levittown (right next to the new Home Depot).
Food Truck Fridays is the spot to be for all of you food truck lovers out there. And we know that there are a lot of you. Come on. Who does not like a good food truck? And even better. Who wouldn't appreciate a nice relaxing area where about ten food trucks are parked for your convenience. That is exactly what Food Truck Fridays is all about. With such an awesome mix of variety FTF which is absolutely family oriented is the place where everyone can select and enjoy from the trucks that show up that week. Regulars and new comers are always welcome to participate in this highly and quickly popular event. One of the regulars being Greek Authentic. Whats in their name is exactly what you will get. The food that comes out of the Greek Authentic truck is simply authentic. Not only do you get great/friendly service from Spiro and the rest of the guys working the truck, but the food you get from them is simply delicious. As Long Islanders we do have our fair amount of choices for Greek but if you want the real deal, coming to Greek Authentic on a Friday night is the way to go. And whats even better to announce is that the crew of Greek Authentic just recently celebrated their grand opening of their own restaurant. Greekalicious is now open over at 1274 Wantagh Ave in Wantagh, So if its not on a Friday, you definitely want to go to their new location to check them out. Both on the truck and at the restaurant anything from gyros to souvlaki to French fries to Greek fries could be found. |
|
One of the newest trucks on the circuit is another popular choice when attending FTF and that is Crepes & Bakes. You could tell just by the amount of people who hopped on their line that the big orange truck was one to check out. When ordering you had two very important decisions to make. A savory crepe or sweet crepe. No matter what you decided, you left the line very satisfied and your hunger take care of. On the sweet side you had crepes with Nutella. You had crepes with bananas. You had crepes with strawberries. You even had crepes with all three as a choice. Freshly made and prepared in front of you and done in a matter of a few minutes, selecting Crepes & Bakes is a "sweet" decision to make when coming down to Food Truck Fridays.
Another truck that is a must that frequently visits FTF is Concrete Jungle. If you are in the mood for some tacos or the like, stopping by the "Jungle" is a must. Known for their amazing and very tasty soft tacos, one can pick from their many different varieties. Tacos ranging from a Sloppy Beef (beef, queso, black beans, cilantro cream-which is all worth it right there, and red onion),to a a BBQ Taco and for all you spicy fans a Spicy Taco which comes filled with chicken, sriracha slaw, fresh jalapenos and chipotle aioli can all be enjoyed. The way Ivana and her fellow staff makes them is no joke. We know you will feel the same way.
For all you Vegan eaters out there, have no fear. You can still enjoy Food Truck Fridays by going over to visiting Matt and his crew at the very popular Green Street Truck. Matt and his very friendly Green Street staff will provide to you a fantastic vegan style dish. With all sorts of very tasty choices one of the most popular is the Green Street Thai Bowl. Packed with raw zucchini noodles, steamed broccoli, grilled tofu, shredded carrots, chopped peanuts, cilantro, a LIME wedge, and their homemade peanut sauce (which is simply amazing), it is no surprise that Vegans and Non Vegans come to "The Street" for this reason alone. Definitely stop on by and see them.
FTF, which is an event organized and put on by Wendy Lantigua, owner of The Happy Pig who are another widely popular choice due to their very awesome and amazing tater tot creations started this new weekly tradition back in the fall of 2018. Because of the huge success that they had they just recently started it up again and to be honest, the event is top notch and highly recommended for you to go check out. Tables are on the premises for you to enjoy your food purchases and sometimes the church is even open for you to enjoy your food indoors.
*Editors Note: More reviews of different trucks will be added here on a weekly basis. Please check back.
*Editors Note: Food Truck Fridays has moved to Saturdays at 11 a.m. as part of the Farmers Market event

Hops and props craft beer fest
|
The Cradle Of Aviation transformed just like it does every year to a beer lovers paradise. Long Islanders "took off" and "landed" in a museum full of craft beer from some of the best as Garden Social of East Meadow hosted the annual Hops and Props Craft Beer Festival. Craft Beer from popular brewing companies such as Blue Point to Great South Bay to Lithology to Montauk were on hand as well as the 1940's Brewing Company and even the Brooklyn Brewery. The event which you could tell immediately was a huge hit and a lot of fun.
Two options were available for you to enter. VIP which got you in an hour earlier and a head start to putting your souvenir glass (which was supplied to you as part of your paid admission) to work or GA which got you going at the regular 7 p.m. start time. Since the weather was a little brisk that night, spending the money to start the night ahead of the game was the smart option. As soon as you stepped inside, the games began. A few of the breweries greeted and served you right before entering the "main gallery". Upon entering the gallery, the hard part was deciding which way to turn and head first. Tables among tables among tables lined the floor on the main level of the museum with all kinds of great and delicious beers for you to try. And no matter how you "took flight" in the direction that you started, the beers were cold and plentiful for your taste buds enjoyment. Each and every table was very fun to stop at as each representative took their time to chat, answer any question you may have about their product or to just talk beer. As stated earlier, Garden Social (1964 Hempstead Tpke in East Meadow) was the host and did a great job at it. They were on hand serving their "Sweet" IPA which was a one of the crowd pleasers. Garden Social also hosted the after party for those who wanted to continue the night after last call at the museum. Not only are they known for being an awesome beer garden, but they are also known for their great menu and serving some of the best there is to offer. Hops and Props was not only just beer. Sure that was the main attraction, but what made this event even more appetizing was the |
food vendors and companies that were present as well. Rib In A Cup, to the North Fork Doughnut Company (No Fo Do Co) to the friendly and very enthusiastic crew from Waffle Cabin in Long Beach were all hands on deck talking with their new fans and potential new customers.
The event as a whole was one not to be missed. Everyone walked in happy and they all walked out feeling the same way. The event was put on and organized with such professionalism and without any flaws just the way an event should be put on. We are sure that many of the people who attended have attended before as well as attended by new comers. It probably is a safe bet to say that those new comers will be returning. And a high recommendation from us to you. If you did not attend, then you should definitely be a new comer yourself next year and join all the fun that you missed.

Chocolate expo
The crowd once again found their way to the Cradle Of Aviation for the annual Chocolate Expo presented by the Baum Image Group. And just like all the previous years, this was yet another "Sweet" one.
Chocolate Enthusiasts from all around the area started forming lines from the minute doors opened to the last minute. And no surprise as this year was one of the best and the busiest. The museum, which was decked out with so many excellent vendors offering their many varieties of chocolate were all on hand for sampling and for purchase. From brownies to fudge to raw chocolate to even frozen hot chocolate, this years expo had it all to make a chocolates lovers paradise. No matter where you were on the main floor of the COA, you were always in arms reach of something very yummy and excellent to taste. Lines of people who attended seemed to find their way to each and every table trying, buying and even listening to the vendors talk about their product. One of the many highlights of the day was getting something from the Chocolate Fountain. We mean whats a Chocolate Expo without one? Many of the attendees either had such a great time either just watching the chocolate flow freely, watching their own piece get dipped or watching someone else's piece get dipped. Another main attraction was the work and masterpiece of food artist Nancy Baker. Baker who spent quite a "little" time on what she contributed was a |
|
very popular photo opp. We guess creating a life size astronaut made of cookies would do the trick. It was quite unique and very cool to see. It was also cool to see everyone's reaction to it. We asked Baker how many cookies it took and she said about fifty to sixty pounds worth.
Entertainment was also provided in a few different ways. If you made your way towards the Hangar Part of the museum and probably even before you reached the area, if you heard some beats, you knew you were reaching the party. The Dance Party that is as music was provided by the famed D.J. Chef. Not only was D.J. Chef and his very pretty assistants there to provide the tunes, but the chef (hence the chef part of his name) was there to cook and contribute to the event. Making an unbelievable chocolate bread pudding as well as spinning, made the hangar a lively spot for most of the afternoon. Chef Paula was also on hand. In between running her own table and providing a seminar which included having the kids involved was very popular to watch as well.
Just like all the other years, the Expo was quite the experience. It always is and we look forward to welcoming the Baum Group again to host. For those of you who missed it, or for those of you who need another dose and can't wait another year, the Expo has other events planed close to vicinity including March 31 over at Rutgers University in New Jersey. We recommend you not missing it.

80's Night @ The Cradle of aviation
|
Garden City's Cradle Of Aviation transformed itself for the second time this year to an 80's person dream. The reason? A simple one. The COA hosted yet another 80's Old School Video Game and Karaoke Night. And for all those who attended, whether you lived in through the infamous decade or not, spending the time to relive it here for 80's Night was well worth the time.
Lets lay out the scene. Take the main concourse of the museum. Throw in arcade versions of some of the best and most popular games from the 80's. Throw that in with a very wide choice of classic games played on classic and popular old school consoles and you have all what you need if you were that old school gamer. As soon as the doors opened, people went right to playing. People flocked to the arcades. People flocked to the consoles. Here a video game. There a video game. Everywhere you looked, a video game in some capacity was right there in front of you. And the best part? All games were set on play mode which allowed you to play non stop through out the night. You can tell that people very much enjoyed themselves the entire night. The other half of the night featured a little karaoke action. We mean whats an 80's themed night with out some people singing some great classic 80's tunes. Even our very own Bobby Ramos who can belt a tune gave his all and boy did he have the crowd going. Many other people braved the challenge as tons of people got up on the stage, took the mic and went to entertain the crowd. It was a great break between playing to watch or to simply enjoy the sounds while playing. People definitely enjoyed going through the catalog of songs that were provided to select what they were going to perform. And there was some great talent. |
Another part of the night that was a cool sight to see was the costumes that many people came in. All different 80's themed characters could be spotted as people came dressed as their faves. Even 'Freddy Mercury" fresh, out of his hit movie joined us. And to even enjoy ones self just a little bit more? How about a bar to quench that thirst while attending.
As you can see, hosting 80's Night has been one of the museums most favorite and funnest nights. Everyone from the people attending, to the great staff at the COA who ran the event really had an excellent time. We are sure that both the museum and the people who went can't wait for the event to return next year.

li comic book expo @ old bethpage restoration
The place that we all visited via class field trip when we were in fourth grade transformed to a Comic Book fans heaven as it does once a year. The reason: The annual LI Comic Book Expo. The place: None other then the very famed Old Bethpage Restoration. Thats right. One day a year, fans of all ages, dressed in all sorts of various COS play (including COS from Geek-E Magazine the Cosplay Alliance) visit the restoration and enjoy the scenes of some of the best local vendors and artists from the buisness.
The LI Comic Book Expo was set up in two different buildings. Fans who parked in the main lot pretty much started their day over at the Visitors Center. That is where most purchased their tickets which allowed them to bounce back and forth through out the day. Once in the Visitors Center, and upon entering the main room there, event goers were greeted by the Monster Girls giving out free energy drinks. Which if you think about it, having them at the beginning was great strategy as you needed all the energy you could to explore and enjoy this very fun and great day. Entering the room at the Visitors Center was the smaller of the two rooms but stil was the site to some great vendors offering some great deals. Another awesome table there was with artist Mike Pagano. Pagano is best known for his art work of super heroes that he had proudly displayed. After being entertained at the Center, you had the choice to either make the very short and easy walk to the barn or hop on a shuttle that was provided for the day. Either one, the barn which was the main part of the expo was filled to every space with tables. Tables for vendors. Tables for artists which included the wonderful and skillful work of Alexander Sapountzis. Even a table for a balloon artist extradonaire (talking about the very popular and amazing Mr. |
|
Poppintwist) were all hands on deck to say hello and to talk comics, comics, comics. Another cool artist who was seen talking to all who stopped by was Jay Huwer. Huwer was there with Indy Wrestler Francis Kip Stevens from the Create A Pro Wrestling School.
As you can clearly see, the Li Comic Expo had a little bit of this. And a little bit of that. But the really cool thing was that it as a fun day which could clearly be seen on everyones faces. The LI Comic Book Expo is held twice a year. Here at Old Bethpage in the spring and usually at the Hilton in Melville in the late fall. Make sure you check them out and start attending.

jim breuer Residency at the paramount
Memorial Day Weekend twenty nineteen really started off really well for those lucky enough to attend this installment of the Jim Breuer Residency over at The Paramount in Huntington. Ever since Breuer started his once a month gig back in the winter of 2018, fans have been swarming to buy tickets as all of them sell out. And no surprise. A ticket to see the former SNL star, movie star (Known for his epic roll in Half Baked) and most recently known as being that huge Mets fan, coming down to see Breuer a fellow born and raised Long Island resident (Valley Stream), coming to see him live and in person will have you rolling with laughter from the minute he hits the stage until the very second when he comes off. And that was most certainly the case when we here at LIME were in the house to cover this particular show.
Breuer, who said that each and every show will be different truly has stayed to those words. When the residency first began his show was set up in three parts. The stand up. Then there was the story telling. Then him and his band would perform a few songs. Yes. If you didn't know, Breuer does have a band that he performs with as he is an avid heavy metal fan especially for the Metallica (which we will get to more in a little bit). At this show, Breuer tried something different for the second time. The month before, Breuer brought a very special guest in former Mets star and World Series Champion Mookie Wilson. This time he brought another start from his favorite team. That star being also from that great 1986 squad and pitching great Doc Gooden. Gooden who was seated in the upper level over hang right over the stage had his |
moments with Breuer as the two of them went back and forth reminiscing about times when they first met (Keep on reading about a funny story), to their families to Mets memories. Breuer went on to tell the crowd that while attending Mets Fantasy Camp now for the last five years and Gooden attending the last three of five, Breuer was very excited to find out that Gooden was there that first year that Gooden started attending. Breuer went on to tell the crowd that when he found out Gooden was in the clubhouse office and that the other members of the camp told him to go see and meet him Breuer did just that. He most certainly saw Gooden in the office. But there was a problem. Breuer said he saw the "Doc" passed out and sleeping on the couch. He then showed a picture to the packed crowd to prove his case which caused Gooden and everyone else to laugh.
Not only did Breuer mention his love for the team in the blue and orange but he also discussed his love for his favorite band Metallica who Breuer was very lucky and fortunate enough to open for when the band recently hit the road. Breuer went on to explain how it happened. He said that he got a call (and in his awesome James Hetfield voice) described how it all went down. Now if you close your eyes and you heard both, you would think there were two Hetfields. Thats how spot on Breuer is with his idol.
In his hour plus set, Breuer was just tremendous. The range of subjects he was able to perform about to the way he actually gets up there and talks and makes everything so funny is just amazing. Other areas that Breuer talked about was how possessed he really thought his daughters were, to how he took care of his father at the time he was sick (which is how he ended the show and almost had the crowd crying with laughter) to how the best part of the circus were the lions and how unpredictable they can be.
Seeing him if we have to say is a must. But we do advise getting tickets for what ever month you plan on going to as soon as they go on sale. It will be worth every penny.

simple plan Halloween night at the paramount
On a night where you could have received a trick or a treat, if you attended the Simple Plan show at The Paramount in Huntington on Halloween night, you definitley ended up with a treat. The boys of Simple Plan made their return to the area to play for a very high energized crowd and did not dissappoint as this punk rock show went exactly as advertised.
The lights went out. The sirens went off. And the band from Canada all dressed as Zombies for Halloween that everyone came to see came on to the stage. Simple Plan got the crowd going right away. Opening with one of their many hits and fan favorites, SP started the night with "I'd Do Anything". As soon as the first note was heard, the crowd who came to rock started immediately jumping up and down, fists flying in the air and of course the crowd surfing began. Now all was complete for this punk rock show to start on the right foot. The band then went into the song "Jump". But before they began playing it, Pierre asked the crowd if they were "Ready to party with us tonight?". "It's Halloween. Everyone jump with me." The crowd did not to have to be told a second time as everyone on the floor complied and was moving up and down not only through the song but for the duration of the show. "It's good to be back here. Who has a costume on because you are never too old for Halloween", Pierre told the fans. Connecting with the fans all night he also asked if anyone was here seeing Simple Plan for the first time before playing another hit "Welcome to My Life". "Your Love is a Lie" was followed next right infront of one of SP's newest songs "Boom". A funny moment occurred when the band was inbetween songs and Pierre noticed a crowd surfer calling him out saying "Oh yeah. Inbetween crowd surfing. Best part." He then continued by informing the packed house, that Sp has been around for 20 years with the first album coming out in 2002. He also wanted to know if anyone in attendance was born before that album which many were. |
|
SP then went into the song that Pierre later said was the song that made them famous (joking around) as they played the theme from Scooby Doo righfully titled "What's New Scooby Doo?" It might not have been that song that put our friends from our neighbor to the North on the map, but playing the next song definitley did as Simple Plan then played "Addicted". "Summer Paradise" came shortly after as giant beach balls were tossed into the crowd fromt he stage as the crowd had fun throwing them up in the air.
Another highlight of the show which was unexpected, occurred during the song "Crazy". During middle of the song, Pierre went running off the stage and ran into the crowd and stood at the far end of the floor where he sang for a little. Simple Plan ended the night performing "Perect" as one of their encore songs.
It was a great show on a great night. And if you attended not only was it a SIMPLE PLAN to make for sending your Halloween night, it was a very well spent one.

In 2004, punk rock band Green Day released their seventh studio album titled "American Idiot". And in doing so not only did they know they had an album that would do very well, but they also knew that in the process this album had the ability to strike it big and be a smash on Broadway. With each track, there was a character. And each one of those characters were portrayed when the album did in fact become a play.
That was certainly the case when a cast of about twenty five actors and actresses decided to try out for their own rendition and perform it over at the CM Performing Arts Center in the Noel S. Ruiz Theatre in Oakdale. If you couldn't catch the running on Broadway seeing it right here on the island was just as good. Directed by Ashley Nicastro this play had some amazing acting, amazing singing and some amazing choreography. The cast and crew that put together this version certainly did their homework and put together such an incredible production. Billie Joe Armstrong (lead singer of Green Day and the writer of the play) would most be proud of watching these young actors perform his work. The story behind the play was that it showed how Johnny (played by Andrew Murano), Will (played by David DiMarzo) and Tunny (played by Matt Paredi) struggled with life in various aspects and by living on the streets. It also portrayed how Will and his girlfriend Heather (played by Marly Mensher) made it by becoming parents at a very young age. A lot of these extremely talented actors were probably very young when "American Idiot" first came out. But to play each role like they did was quite the scene to see. conatined topics such as sex, drugs and alcohol was no match for this extradonary talented group.
The way the play was set up and designed was very simiiar to how it went on Broadway. Having each scene named from a song from the album, the cast performed it with all their heart and dedication and made a great presentation on making an album (which at the time affected many people in many ways) come to life.
The CM Performing Arts Center was the perfect place to have housed this five star performance. With this play being one of their edgier kinds then what they are used to, this local theater that we are very lucky to have is quite the venue. If you missed the showing of "American Idiot" we encourage you to check out their website at CMPAC.com to find out more about their upcoming shows.
