fathom Clothing
|
We here at LIME would like to introduce you to FATHOM Clothing. FATHOM Clothing is an independent alternative clothing company founded by fellow Long Island resident Dexter Dible from Patchogue. Dible has a very strong background in graphic design volunteered and created the logo for the ever so popular Alive After Five event back in 2014. After seeing the logo, Dible was approached by James Skidmore who wanted Dible to design a few shirts for him. After seeing the designs FATHOM was then born.
The word "fathom" has two meanings. The first meaning is to comprehend something and to enlighten people. The second meaning is that is used as a nautical measurement. The nautical theme is the visual part which lets Dible paint a picture for people to relate to ( such as the anchor logo). The "enlightenment" part is with-in their sayings, such as "Be Your Own Revolution" which is the FATHOM slogan. It means to be the change you want to see in the world. They think that you need to change yourself from within before you can be a positive influence on the world; lead by example not by force. What makes FATHOM popular and what makes them stand out from the rest is that the FATHOM brand supports all brand sort art ranging from the local music scene to the local tattoo artists. If you attend a local show you will probably see a form of FATHOM merchandise or run into someone who knows of the name. Currently, FATHOM is ranked #3 in the U.S. when searching and using the key words "Alternative Clothing". It is very exciting for FATHOM to be so high in the rankings in the country being in business for a little over a year. Dible who is originally from San Diego, became fascinated with graphic design back in high school and has a very interesting story behind it. Dible had always loved creating logos and illustrations. When he was in High School he took a screen printing class and stayed after almost everyday printing and designing shirts, until he got kicked out for shoving my teacher. While it lasted though, his love for design grew. Dible was also a street punk and just surfed and skated everyday. Graphic design was one of the few things in |
High School that he actually enjoyed going to, when he actually went to school. Dible was in the graphic design honors class and was well on the way to get a scholarship to go to a design school for college but then my family decided to move to New York half way through my senior year.
FATHOM takes pride in their work. Everything is done on the best quality of shirts, hoodies or hats. Dible and company want people to support and wear the FATHOM logo for a long time to come. They just recently re designed their site and all of their awesome merchandise can be seen and ordered on it. You can check them out over at fathom.clothing.

save the snowman
Located at 25 Smith Street in Massapequa Park, you can find the residence of one of the most popular Snowmen since the debut of Frosty. What are we talking about? We are talking about the "Save The Snowman" located on the property of the Fregoe family.
Husband, father and creator Mike Fregoe has always built snowmen but last year was when this project took off. You see, last year Fregoe had a plan to keep his snowman alive and well as long as possible. Even when the snow decided to finally stop falling, Fregoe kept on getting donations or we should say "snowations" as Fregoe likes to call it from all across the island, from other parts of the state and even from OTHER states (a family brought snow back from Vermont to contribute). Because of the snowations, Fregoe was able to keep his snowman until April 20. This year, the snowman might be around until the 4th of July. When LIME went to visit it, the snowman was standing at 14 feet tall and 27 feet round and was solid. It is the biggest its ever been. Fregoe told us that making a snowman wide and packed is much better then skinny. Passer by's stop to stare in awe or to come up to take pictures of this unique and very cool snow creation. It has even been featured on other media outlets as well such as on television and on the radio. |
|
Fregoes inspiration behind the enjoyment of making his snowmen each and every year is that there is so much bad news going on that doing this is good news an it makes people happy. He also sells t shirts that all proceeds from them go to help the St. Judes foundation. The attention of it is not only Long Island based. Fregoe informed us that people as far away as Poland, Australia and the United Kingdom has hit up the facebook page campaign as so can you by simply searching "Save The Snowman" on facebook.
Now even though July 4 is a little bit of a stretch as that was strictly us just having a little fun, Fregoe does hope that this years snowman lasts at least just one day past last years which would be surviving until April 21. You can also check out the video we conducted with Fregoe over on our facebook page.

Museum of american armor
Growing up on Long Island, ones schooling is never complete without going on a field trip to the Old Bethpage Restoration in Old Bethpage. But from now on and since opening the doors about two years ago, (June 6- D-Day to be exact and YES that opening date was set on purpose) visitors can now walk in and enjoy what the Museum Of American Armor has to offer. And to make the deal even sweeter, admission to the new museum is included in the price to the Restoration.
The Museum Of American Armor (MOAA) is a very interesting bonus to this property. It houses all different kind of vehicles that were used during the World War II time frame. From tanks to trucks to jeeps one can certainly gain some useful knowledge and gain a very cool and fun history lesson from what is exhibited within the walls of MOAA. When you first step into the museum you are greeted by many historical pictures and artifacts before walking into the main part that contains all of the "Big" toys. Before walking in to that area though, visitors can enjoy a very unique video presentation of a very unique experience that the MOAA has. Since this is a WWII themed |
|
museum, the staff at the MOAA gives its visitors a once in a lifetime opportunity where you can take part in a cool wartime re-enactment. Once a month WWII fans can make a reservation that will allow them to put on war like uniforms, hop on a tank that is driven to a field on the premises and then treated to a war like scenario. This experience usually lasts for about an hour and a half and is a very popular feature to the new facility.
Inside the main room again is where you can find all the vehicles. Anything and everything that was used in battle during the war can be viewed. The museum also has many well knowledgeable volunteers that are there to answer any questions you may have including Kevin Carroll who was very awesome and fun to talk to while he took us around when we visited. Now while all the vehicles are for seeing only, the building and the whole experience in general gives the visitor a real cool look on how things went down during battle. A trip to visit our friends here at MOAA is highly recommended for a nice day out. We hope you go visit and enjoy it as much as we did.

photospell

Living here on Long Island, we always have a wide variety of things to select from. With so many unique talents, it what makes our island so cool. There is one talent and business that we would like to introduce you to and that is Michael Belling of Lindenhurst and his PhotoSpell company. PhotoSpell is a company like no other and has a really cool concept.
The focus of PhotoSpell is Belling's amazing photography skills. The main part of what he does is exactly what the name of the company says. Photo. Spell. Let us explain. Belling takes pictures of any and every object that he spots that are in forms of letters. He then takes those letters to spell words or even makes customs. Example: If you want a frame made up for a sports fan, Belling will find objects dealing with that sport and spell out the team or the fan's name. He will even put it in a frame and make it to the need of the picture. Getting a gift for someone? No problem. Tell Belling the name, what they are into and he will find objects to spell out that persons name. The picture you will get will surely be something you will truly enjoy.I'm sure you get the point by now. However to truly see it for yourself on the amount of time, effort and to truly be amazed and "wowed" visiting Belling during a local fair is the best way. With so many vendors that attend local fairs that occur year round, Belling and his PhotoSpell tent is usually very busy and very popular to stop by to. People can admire his work that is on display to show people what he is all about. Not only can you get a frame with something spelt out but you can also buy a very awesome scenic shot from anything ranging to the city sky scrapers, to the beach to nature and even to cars and planes that Belling has in his collection. Another aspect to the PhotoSpell brand is the making of children's alphabet books. Same idea as the pictures and very cool to have to |
have a young child read from. We here at LIME not only encourage you to stop by the PhotoSpell tent when you spot it but we also encourage you to check out their official site over at photospelldesigns.com. There you can check out more pictures, find out when Belling will be coming to a town near you and even to find out what local retail locations that PhotoSpell is featured at. So now that we put the "Spell" on you, do yourself a favor and check them out.
Extreme Video Game Zone
Warning! Warning! Warning! By reading further you have been warned that you are now allowing yourself to enter the "Zone". Don't worry though as you are safe because you are now entering the world of the Extreme Video Game Zone. Now let us explain to you what Extreme Video Game Zone (EVGZ) is all about.
There are a lot of cool ideas and ways to throw a party or to entertain at a special occasion but when it all comes down to selecting which way to go, selecting EVGZ for the job is probably one of the best ways to go about it. EVGZ is a video game truck company that travels to you. There is no set up for you, clean up for you or pretty much nothing for you except to have the time of your life for you and your guests. EVGZ was started by Danny Mercado and his wife Jessica. They understand that having entertainment at a party or throwing a party somewhere can be a little on the expensive side so thats why they decided to create something that is cool and unique and something that is very affordable. EVGZ will bring their video game truck trailer to your house, or the location where your event is being held and will make your afternoon |
|
or evening one to remember. And here is why. Everyone loves video games. It doesn't matter if you are the old school type or new school, playing video games is something that everyone can enjoy. And what better way to enjoy playing them then in a huge trailer that is filled with all the latest systems with all the top named games for you to enjoy at your leisure. That is the ultimate experience you get when you bring EVGZ to your party. The trailer is wall to wall with flat screen tv's and very comfortable seating to accommodate a large group at one time. All you have to do is ask Dan or Jessica to load in a game of your choice and off you go. Situated outside of the trailer are tv's as well so if you don't want to play inside, you can play outside.
Plus if you decide to give EVGZ a try and again we highly recommend that you do, please be warned. You may be the envy on your block when the neighbors spot you and see you having an amazing time with the EVGZ truck hanging outside your door.

Just Escape
|
With so many things to do on our island the choices may be hard when finally deciding. But if you ever want to "Just Escape" then that choice is simple and it's located at 529 Broadway in Massapequa. Yep. You see, Just Escape is the newest and hottest trend that has opened up and if you and some friends really want to enjoy their night, make an appointment and head there as soon as you can.
Just Escape is exactly that. Sure you have probably heard of others in the city and had to trek all the way there but when it comes to doing it correctly and the best way, Just Escape in Massapequa is the right way to do it. Ever since owner Jacqueline Garf and her partner, Emily Recher has opened doors, business has not slowed down and by the way things look, it will probably be like that for a long time. Just Escape, which has five themed rooms ranging from a Carnival theme, to a Mafia theme to a Witchcraft theme gives you sixty minutes to collect as many clues as possible to reveal hidden keys and messages. Your assignment is easy. Gather all the keys and clues in order to escape within the sixty minutes you are given. To increase your chances and to have the maximum amount of fun, definitely show up with a big crowd (or the max amount allowed in the room you pick out). And a little word of friendly advice. Make sure you check anything and everything in your room for a clue. And also if you do |
get stuck, you can always check the screen (every room contains one) where every so often a helpful hint will appear. You also get a certain amount of clues as well that will appear to help you try to unlock your room within the time frame.
Just Escape is a great place for any fun occasion. Whether its just to hang out for the night, to get some co workers together to relax after work or even have a kids birthday party, Just Escape can and will be more then willing to accommodate you. We recently went to check it out ourselves by doing the Mafia themed room and we here at LIME do not like to brag but we did make it out with nine minutes left to spare. We highly recommend you checking it out once, twice, three times. Then 1,2 or 3 more. When you call and make your reservation (which is the way to go) ask for Jacqueline and mention us here at LIME by letting them know the discount code LIME10 to receive your 10% off discount. You can also book online on their website at JustEscapeLI.com Have fun and most importantly, Good Luck!!!

li-kick
No if's, ands or buts, if you want to take it back "Old School", relive the past and have a real "Kick" doing so, let us please introduce you to the best kickball league in the area. LIME Heads please say hello to LI-Kick. LI-Kick is Long Islands number one adult co-ed kickball league. Owned and run by Sal Farruggia, LI-Kick makes sure you have not only the best time by taking the field but they also make sure you have a very fun time as well.
LI-Kick, which has been around since its inaugural year of 2013, has three Kickball seasons: Fall, Spring and Summer. We were very lucky to be part of the Spring 2017 season that played games at Glen Coves' City Stadium Park. The league met every Thursday night starting at 8:30 and played an eight week schedule. LIME was part of team Glory Daze and had a real fun time joining them and being part of the experience. Other teams that were part of the league included I'd Kick That, You're My Boy Blue and Rum Around The Bases. Now if you are wondering how the games were played and if they were played just like you remember. Then YES. Think exactly that. Old School Kickball all the way. Played on a grass field, and even with an umpire, all games are played the same way with the same rules and regulations as when you were in elementary school. Each game is the traditional nine innings with three outs (four if your team is at the "Mercy Rule") and each and every week all games were well managed and organized. |
|
In its four year existence, many members and teams that make up the league have been there since the very beginning creating many friendships. Whether you are there just to have fun and enjoy playing a game that you grew up playing or whether you are there playing competitive, Li-Kick is made up of teams and players of all skill levels. The league also just celebrated playing its 1,000th game as well.
When you join Li-Kick however, the fun doesn't just happen between the foul lines. After every game, the league meets up at a local bar to have some fun and unwind a different way. Not only can you relax with your teammates and other players but Farruggia usually sets up some kind of game where teams can win points to become "Bar Champs". For some, attending the post game activities is the highlight.
LI-Kick also offers a soccer league and once in a while they organize an open Dodgeball event also. By joining you not only get out there and get some exercise but you end up having a great time as well. If this is something that just struck your interest, we highly recommend you checking out their official website at LI-Kick.com to check out more about them.

island collectibles

Collecting as a hobby has always been strong here on Long Island. It doesn't matter what it is you are collecting, but collecting in general has always been here and will continue to be part of our culture. One thing that will always be an interest, is our enjoyment of collecting toys (both old and new),collectibles, comics and the like. That is why we are pleased to introduce to you Island Collectibles of Island Park. Now before you think that Island Collectibles is just another one of your typical toy collecting store. Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Stop and please continue to read.
Situated at 31 Saratoga Blvd, Island Collectibles is a collectible store like no other. What makes us say that? Well lets see. Ever walk into a store and get stuff for free? Even without buying anything? Ever walk into a store and feel so welcomed that the owner who is super nice knows your name? Ever walk into a store and feel like you are a kid at heart again? We can go on with a few more but we have a feeling you catch our drift. And also there is so much more we need to discuss about Island Collectibles that will get you rushing out your door and over to them by the time you finish reading this. Opening its doors in September 2017, owner Jason Sidelman introduced the area to Island Collectibles Inc. Now not only is IC a site to witness on the inside but if you are a true fan and collector of the scene, one look on the outside and you automatically will realize that visiting was a very smart choice. The reason? Painted outside is a giant mural that is simply breath taking of all the favorite super heroes. The mural which is a pure work of art by local artist Sean Carlson is worth the trip alone. But of course its in the inside that really matters. And in the inside you will find your self looking at amazement of all the stuff wall to wall, top to bottom of all the collectibles and vintage memorabilia that is at your fingertips to look through and purchase. From the old school to the new school, items, trading cards, comic books, figures and so much more can be found. And not only can the be found and enjoyed, but with everything at very reasonable prices, IC will become your very addictive new best friend. IC is superb at customer service as well. Sidelman who has also employed Coty Lobel to help know their stuff. Another great highlight you get to do when you walk into IC is to talk with them about whatever you are there looking for. And we can not forget about Sidelmans nine year old daughter, Julia who makes frequent trips to |
the store to help her father out. Julia likes having fun with her father in the store, especially since she gets paid in toys.
Contests and generous discounts are also a big part of the excellent experience you receive as a customer to Island Collectibles. With all the above mentioned, its no surprise that the store already has its set customers who return on a weekly basis. And now with you reading about them, it is our hope you become a new customer which will in time turn to one of those returning customers. Definitely go check them out as you will not be disappointed. And make sure you tell Jason you saw them right here at LIME.

charlottes speakeasy
Learning about history is fun. But reliving it is even cooler. And if you know the secret password of the week (which can be found at CharlottesSpeakEasy.com) you can simply go back to the decade which was famously known as the "Roaring Twenties" and do just that.
How? Simple. If you patronage the very active Main Street in the town of Farmingdale you are probably very familiar with Charlotte's Ice Cream. Known for their great choices of self serve flavors visiting Charlotte's is one of the must do's when strolling the block. But now there is a new reason to visit Charlotte's. You see, when owners and brothers Nick and John Devito purchased the store and took over, they were told that there was unoccupied space downstairs that was used as a speak easy from back in the day. It was close to a year ago that both Devitos decided to do something with it. That is when they decided to re develop the space and re open it as a brand new speak easy. Charlotte's SpeakEasy which opened and introduced to the public in November of 2017 quickly became the talk of the town. Like stated above, and just like how any speak easy operated, one can not just show up and venture in. No way. To get the full effect, you must find the secret password on the official web site and mention it to the bouncer who will be standing guard at the hidden wall. Mentioning to him that you are here for the speak easy will NOT get you in. You MUST know the password in order to get the wall pushed open. Once you supply that correct password the wall will open and down the stair case you will go. And once down stairs, please be amazed at the awesome work and construction that was done in order to complete this project. Limited to about sixty five people at a time, visitors of Charlotte's SpeakEasy will be truly in awe. Charlotte's SpeakEasy is a truly complete functionally bar with a nice full choice of beers, wines and specialty drinks. There is also food on the menu but according to (Nick) Devito, coming to the speak easy |
|
to eat a full dinner is not the right choice. Instead, Devito recommends coming out to Main Street to enjoy the full effect as there are many great restaurants in the area. Devito says to go out, enjoy a night on the town then come to Charlotte's after dinner to enjoy a drink and a light snack. The menu here at the speak easy is made up of appetizer type of items.
On top of the great drink choices and the food selection, to bring the whole "Twenties" theme back, customers to the speak easy will be entertained by a different Jazz band that will be performing each and every night. Also, to add to the decor from the decade you may notice the old school pictures hanging on the walls. The pictures are very cool to look at it as it shows how things were such as the automobiles and what places looked like. And we must also include to tell you about one more cool feature. On the other side of the speak easy, you may see another stair case. This stair case will lead you out to the back to a very spacious out door area that is open to your convenience as well. It will be the perfect spot once the warmer weather hits.
We highly recommend you going out to check out Charlotte's SpeakEasy next time you plan on visiting the Farmingdale area. The hours are Thursday 7:30 p.m-12 a.m. and Friday and Saturday from 7:30 p.m.- 1:00 a.m. Charlotte's Ice Cream/SpeakEasy is located at 294 Main Street.

five towns limousines
|
Having an event? Heading out to a night on the town? Need something that will make heads spin? And want to do it all in style? Then if you answered "Yes" to all those questions, we here at LIME have the answer. And its quite the simple one. Five Towns Limousine. Who are they? And why them? Well sit back, and please give us a few minutes of your time to explain ourselves.
Five Towns Limousines (FTL) is a limousine provider like no other. Run and owned by retired NYPD Officer John Erbis for the last 17 years, FTL is a company that not only provides the most unique vehicles which we will explain shortly, but it also has the most accommodating customer service which serves as key when booking such a service. When you book a vehicle with FTL, Erbis will make sure you are 100% satisfied and will absolutely make you feel that you did the right thing by selecting FTL as your limousine choice. FTL like we already said is like no other. The reason is because they have vehicles like no other. And we would like to introduce you to one of them right now. All you have to do for us is "Think Pink" because FTL is home to the Pink H2 Hummer Limo. Pictured in this |
story, the Pink H2 is one of the vehicles in fleet at FTL that will make you feel like a celebrity and it will make people that are passing you think a celebrity is inside. Best used for Cancer Affairs, Sweet 16's and Weddings, arriving in FTL's Pink H2 will assure that people will talk about your event for a very long long time. This most unique vehicle seats 20 and comes to you with a complete sound system and both laser and twinkle lights.
There is a very funny story that comes with the arrival of this vehicle as well. You see, Erbis put it up on the FTL's website without even owning it first just to see the reaction he would receive. After getting non stop calls and emails about it for two years, Erbis went out and got a H2 painted pink and the res as they say is history.
Going back to Erbis, Erbis has been enjoying life retired from the force and running FTL. He is a very cool and great guy and welcomes all calls no matter what the purpose is to prove to you that contacting him at FTL was not a bad choice at all. Not only has he driven people up and down the east coast but he has even had his share of celebs as passengers as well. Some of those include: players from the Yankees, to Heidi Klum to the Dixie Chicks to even Pamela Anderson.
So if that list right there isn't a well enough testimonial to how great FTL is we don't know what is. So do yourselves a favor. Next time you are in the need for a really great limousine company we at LIME are telling you to "Think Pink" and think Five Towns Limousine. They can be found at fivetownslimo.com.
Some of those include: players from the Yankees, to Heidi Klum to the Dixie Chicks to even Pamela Anderson.

big lou's onion sauce
If you want something BIG. Something with a BIG flavor. Something that will make you a hero at your next bbq or party let us introduce you to the newest local item out there. Let us introduce you to BIG Lou's Onion Sauce.
Whats BIG Lou's Onion Sauce? Who is BIG Lou? Well we are glad you are wondering because we have the answers and then some. BIG Lou was the Father of Ralph and the Grandfather of Sal Conca. The sauce has been in the Conca Family for many years as it was just enjoyed in the family at their bbq's and get togethers. Until recently. That is when the Father and Son team decided to become partners and bring back the legacy of this very popular family recipe. At first, Sal decided to take it over and continued to make it. But since the sauce was still enjoyed by many when Sal continued it, he was encouraged to look into jarring it and selling it. It took about a year for Sal and Ralph to think about it and after looking at the options, the regulations and how to properly market BIG Lou's Onion Sauce, the two decided to go for it and that is the how this incredible sauce was created for now everyone to enjoy. BIG Lou's Onion Sauce is that type of sauce that can go well on almost anything. We are talking hot dogs, hamburgers, tacos, even on your eggs and sausages in the morning, BIG Lou's Onion Sauce is the one to try and buy when you see it out. Where can you purchase it? We are glad you are wondering that one as well. You see, with BIG Lou's Onion Sauce brand new to the Long Island population, Sal went right to work trying to find what local stores will sell this treasured Conca delight. Currently, as of the posting of this story, BIG Lou's Onion Sauce can be found on the shelves of Suburbia Meats of Merrick, Zorns of Bethpage and Thyme On Your Side of Farmingdale. You can also catch the BIG Lou's crew at local events such as the Seaford Farmers Market over the weekends at the Seaford LIRR Parking lot as well as other local events through out the area. The Garlic Fest being one of them. Now, as far as what flavors are available. BIG Lou's comes in three |
|
varieties: Spicy, sweet and garlic. The jars are reasonably priced and if you buy more then one variety or just more of one of the flavors, the deal gets better. We had a fun time trying the sauce and we wanted to keep on trying it. But we had to be nice and save some for the other potential happy customers. You can become one of them, which we really hope you do. So you see the logo right on top. Be on the look out for it next time you hit the stores. And most importantly. When you buy your jars, you contact us here at LIME so we can be invited over.

bad mary: the return of space girl
The Fall of 2019 was quite a busy and fun one for the members of Bad Mary. The season started off with a hugely successful trip to Japan where the band became immensely popular. Playing the local scene almost every night during their trip, Bad Mary made Long Island proud as they quickly earned the hearts and respect from all of those who attended to check them out. After returning from their journey, the bands next mission was to release their newest album (album number five) titled The Return Of Space Girl.
Bad Mary whose members include: Amanda Mac (lead vocals), her husband, Mike Staub (vocals and bass), her father Bill Mac on the drums and Amanda and Mike's former college professor David Henderson on guitar is one of those bands that if you want to listen to a real fun punk rock band, playing one of their older albums or getting your hands on The Return Of Space Girl would be the way to go. And just like the previous five, The Return Of Space Girl is a a Bad Mary album that will not disappoint. We would say its out of this world. (Get it?). From the first track (which is the title track "The Return Of Space Girl) to the twelfth "Ordinary Day", the gang of Bad Mary really hit it out of the park with this one. Making a good album is hard thing to do that takes time. But making a great album is even harder and that's what we believe The Return Of Space Girl is. A really great album. From the quality to the sound of the vocals to everything in between, Bad Mary should be really proud of their latest. With a rocking track such as "Addicted" which we can say you may be feeling to the album to a fan favorite track titled "The Itch", The Return Of Space Girl is one to be added to your Bad Mary catalog or if you are a new fan, an album to be added to your local music scene catalog. |
|
Bad Mary along with their music is just something that you can learn to love rather quickly. If you are in to the punk rock music scene Bad Mary is a band that consists of four energetic and very talented musicians. They also love their fans so much that fans of the band can always tune in to watch them practice live weekly. Every week, the band logs on to their Facebook page and Patron page to record a little of their practice sessions. It's a way for them to give back to all the people that have supported them from the beginning. If you donate on their Patron, you also have a say of what tracks you like and what tracks you want heard on future projects as well.
Bad Mary is always playing the local scene here on Long Island and frequently visits the big city as well. Out here on the island, one of the bands favorite spots is Mr. Beerys in Bethpage. Of course you can check out more of Bad Mary at their official site at BadMary.com and you can also check out the very cool video interview we conducted with them by clicking here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=4SvBA2HoXTU

Being a board game collector himself, Goldberg opened up this location and business has certainly been booming. People have found out about it and has definitely come to take full advantage.
The second part of this gem of a concept is the food. You wont find your seven course meal here but you will find some of the greatest snacks and desserts to fill your appetite as you battle. spotlight
Things recently got "brighter" on New York Avenue in Huntington. We all know that the surrounding area is a happening place with a lot to do, but now the Spotlight has been officially turned on. Opened by the famed and extremely popular Paramount (which is ever so conveniently located adjacent) is now Spotlight. What is Spotlight? Well then we are so glad you asked.
Going to a concert and attending The Paramount has been such a popular trend ever since doors opened. With so many people coming to this great venue since day number one(no surprise that at the time of this article the venue is #3 in ticket sales WORLD WIDE), the awesome and great people at The Paramount has opened its property attached called Spotlight. Whether you stop in before a show, after a show or just when you are in town, Spotlight is a unique place where you can enjoy to chill and relax with some friends over some drinks and admire some very cool art work. Lets take the first. Upon arriving to Spotlight and entering through the sliding glass wall (which Spotlight is the only bar in the area to have) you will be welcomed by a very nice sized bar area. You may feel free to sit at the bar and relax or if you come with a big crowd, pull up a seat at one of their tables. People who come to the bar are always attracted by the cool snack wall where you may help yourself to one of the snacks provided in one of the giant tubes hanging on the wall. Another cool feature in the bar area is that you will notice the many different colored spotlights hanging from above. Because with a place called Spotlight, having them all above is only fitting. The feature that Spotlight has that makes it stand out far more then any other bar in the area is their art. Located in a very spacious room behind the bar, is the art gallery. Filled with all different paintings of different themes, Spotlight is also an art studio for all people to enjoy while visiting. With different exhibits, artists and paintings changing every couple of weeks, Spotlight is that place where you can come back to and always see something different. |
|
Also, depending on the time of the year and the exhibit, Spotlight will also have some cool events going on dealing with the art that is currently on display. The last cool feature of Spotlight is their out door area called The Party Deck. Visitors may continue their party if they wish outdoors especially when the weather is nice. Spotlight was a plan for the last few years and now that doors are now open, it has become that place that everyone has been talking about. Spotlight is absolutely worth the trip. So go ahead. Turn the light on and stop on in.
usual Monsters by trevor firetog
Trevor Firetog is a brand new author on the scene. Making his debut with his novella, "Usual Monsters", Firetog is quickly making a name for himself around the area which includes yearly trips as a vendor to the famed New York City Comic Con.
Firetog has been writing basically all his life starting as a young child. As he continued to write it was at the young age of 15 when he started to take things a little more serious. And serious it became. Because two years later, Firetog sold his first ever short story. There are many authors that come across Firetogs mind, but when it comes to a favorite, Firetog goes with Clive Baker. Baker has always been an inspiration to Firetog even before he started his writing. Even though Firetog credits Baker for being his favorite, his favorite book however is by John Fowles and his work "The Collector". As we stated earlier, Firetogs debut "Usual Monsters" is a very detailed. suspicious and a very entertaining quick read. It's not a full novel, hence why he calls it a novella. But if you were to read it, which we hope you do, you would be surprised that this is Firetogs first as it reads like he has been a veteran. Usual Monsters has many different characters and interesting twists and turns throughout. The way the story came to play according to Firetog has a odd story behind it. An editor of a publishing company approached Firetog at a convention and Firetog asked him if we looking for anything specific. When the editor replied with "Monsters", Firetog knew that the editor was at the right place at the right time. From that moment on, Firetog wanted to focus on developing a story line that would fit what he was interested in writing. He didn't want this to be a typical B-Movie style story. He wanted his first to be something thoughtful with a lot of heart. At a writers convention, a high profile author who had read "Usual Monsters" suggested to Firetog to send the story to Crossroad Press who was known for novellas. Getting the advice to send it to them worked out as they absolutely loved it. Firetog still spends his time writing as he is constantly working on something new. One of his other published works was a short story titled "In The Field Where The Fireflies Glow" which was put out by Shock Totem Magazine. Firetog still cant believe this moment because he has been a fan of the magazine way before he started taking his writing on a serious level. And since he is a fan of the magazine, seeing one of his stories with his name in it was one of the most amazing experiences for him. Another source that Firetog has been published in was in New York State Of Fright which is a charity anthology featuring New York based stories by New York writers. Growing up, school was always a hit or miss. When it comes to picking his favorite subject Firetog sides with Art class because it gave him a time to get creative. Talking about his favorite things to do here on Long Island, Firetog enjoys many things depending on what season it is. But normally, you can find him on the beach or rummaging through used book stores and antique stores. He also loves spending time at the many wineries and breweries there are throughout the area. When it comes to finding time to be entertained, Firetog like many Long Islanders loves going to see concerts at Jones Beach as he enjoys the sounds of bands like Alice In Chains to Screaming Trees to Coheed and Cambria to Tool. Firetog also enjoys the works of singer song writers such as Josh Ritter and Kevin Devine. |
As far as what the future holds, a full novel debut is in the works. It takes a lot of time and work to get it all together but Firetog is enjoying the experience. To purchase "Usual Monsters" and everything else published by Firetog, you can easily find it all on Amazon. And you can also find out more by following Trevor on his social media accounts on Facebook and Twitter @TrevorFiretog.
Long Island threads (LIT)
|
When it comes to a sense of pride and respecting and loving where one lives, here on Long Island we are number one. Face it. We have been through some tough times and we always come out fighting and stronger then ever. Long Islanders when needed are always there for each other no matter what. Its in our blood. Not only does it give us a great feeling living in one of the best places in the country, we also like to show it. And that is why LIME Heads we invite you to come get LIT. As in Long Island Threads that is.
Long Island Threads is a brand new clothing line that screams Long Island Pride. How so? Lets see. The main logo of LIT should automatically give it away. You can see by the pictures on your left but owner Steve Savva wanted it to be unique and to catch everyone's eye. The logo with a black island and with the word LONG over it (for Long Island) is incredible and screams out a sense of LI Pride that every Long Islander would love and especially love to wear and support. Lets take you to how it all began. A few years back, Savva who currently works full time in Finance and grew up and resides in Lindenhurst came up with the idea when he watched Lindenhurst win the football championship. After watching his hometown win it all, he decided to make the clothing line just for his town to celebrate the victory. But after completing that, he then wondered why stop at just one town? After that, Savva then decided to make his line Island wide |
for all to show that sense of pride. The first thing was to come up with a name. After coming up with the original name (Long Island Tees), Savva who comes from a very big family noticed and told him that if it stays Long Island Tees then you are limiting yourself to just that. So the brainstorming continued and the "T" turned into Threads.
As stated earlier, Savva who commutes and works full time in Finance in the city started coming up with ideas and getting the site together all while riding the train to and from work every day. With so much to look at while riding whether it was out the window or just at what other people were wearing, Savva drew his ideas from what he saw and what he thought would be most popular. He also got lucky. His job allowed their employees a certain amount of money to to improve in a skill that they wanted to focus on. Savva took this chance to create and learn how to get LIT started. When he first got things rolling, Savva ran the ideas through his Greek and Italian family. Savva said joking around that because his family was mixed with the two, he had a very big audience to get many critiques from.
Since the birth of his creation, Savva is perfect with the turnout that LIT has given him so far. Sure if it turns out to be bigger down the road Savva would enjoy that but for now as a side gig he is 100% satisfied on how things and sales have been going thus far. Recently, LIT was profiled on a local Lindenhurst site where it even grew with more attention. Savva also plans on bringing LIT to local fairs where he can showcase his merchandise so people can buy directly.
Now lets get to the site itself. LIT which can be found here by clicking on to longislandthreads.com is your home Long Island to represent the 516 or the 631. Shirts, hats, hoodies to stickers can be found. This brand new clothing line is a must to check out if you want to be styling with some Long Island Pride. So go check them out. We hope you enjoy what you see and hope to see you out there with some LIT gear.

them scoundrels
We here at LIME would like to introduce you to a great sounding rock band. Them Scoundrels, which have been on the scene since 2012 are an alternative rock band that sure packs the punch when it comes to performing and releasing tunes. Starting off as trio (Joe Crotty, Rich Morton and Anthony Priolo), Them Scoundrels now has two ep's and have no plans of stopping any time soon.
The bands debut ep which was self titled dropped two years after their existence. Not only was the main purpose of it was to let Long Island know who Them Scoundrels were, but it was also to show people the bands ability to combine a variety of music all in one. |
Them Scoundrels is a band that can jam by performing as an alternative rock band to punk to ska and everything else in between. The sound that the band puts together is truly great and if you are a fan of any of the above genres listed, Them Scoundrels is a band you should definitely be checking out. The lyrics of the tracks is quite unique as well. Not only do Them Scoundrels like to rock but they also put their emotions into each and everyone of their songs. By listening to them you would feel anything from love, loss, grief and hope. Writing and creating songs to all of those really shows the creativity of the band and also showcases how passionate they are to making music.
About a little less then a handful of years after releasing the self entitled ep, Them Scoundrels added some female flavor to their line up by adding Tara Terrah to the mix. Terrah joined as co-lead vocalist and can rock with the boys quite well. Her voice goes along great with Morton's (lead vocalist) as clearly heard when the band released their second ep titled Disillusioned.
Disillusioned which came out in the spring of 2021 contains four songs which highlights the bands new sound with Terrah. The back and forth of her and Morton on each track is really fun to listen to and it really makes it fun to get to know the band and their style. Tracks from the ep include "Noelle", "Bridges" which personally is our fave of the four, "Most Beautiful Girl" and "Ready To Run". Recorded at Freedom Soundworks in Levittown, Disillusioned is one of those ep's that have that great local sound mixed with a really professional, clear sound that would make any Them Scoundrels fan or any new fan proud to listen to.
Not only does Them Scoundrels have the two albums to credit themselves, but they are no strangers to some of the popular stages that Long Island has to offer. The band has already played Mr. Beerys, the former Revolution, KJ Farrells and 89 North. Since the world is on the comeback trail, we here at LIME can't wait to see what the future holds for our friends in Them Scoundrels. Please check them out if you see them come to your town. For more info on them you can go ahead and check them out on line at themscoundrels.com

sand city south
|
The Beer. Its been pouring. The people. They have been showing up. The good times. Its been happening. And its all going down at Sand City South right in the middle of Lindenhurst Village.
Located at the old CVS location on Wellwood Ave (right across from the train station which gives you no excuse to come visit), the owners of the original Sand City on the North shore in Northport proudly brings to you its new Lindy location. The Sand City story started back in 2015 when the now owners just started brewing their beer in their garage for parties and for anyone who instantly became a fan. Because of the popularity, the decided to open up the first location. With lines wrapping around the area, a new larger location was needed and that is how the Lindenhurst location, or Sand City South as they like to be called was born. The first thing that you will probably notice when taking your first steps inside, is the size. With numerous tables throughout, Sand City South is the perfect place to come have a drink or two or three and just relax with your company. The staff is also top notch as they are all beer experts and know how to make the brewery enjoyable for all. Here, you taste the flavor of the beer you request. The beers are so popular that if a customer comes in and its not on tap during that day, the staff will open a can from that flavors four pack. Some of the popular beers that Sand City South offers are their Honey Brown and Mango Raspberry. Another very cool thing that Sand City is proud of and rightfully so, is their entertainment. The brewery has their weekly events such as BINGO Nights to Trivia Nights and even Video Game Night where you can play games from old school consoles. Sand City is also very well known for putting on some great charitable events. Events can include booking some of our areas best local talent, to booking some of our areas top tasting food trucks. And talking about music, not only |
can you hear talented musicians at the above events, but you can come down and hear them regularly too as Sand City also entertains you by getting bands and singers in on a regular basis.
Sand City can also accommodate large parties as well. If you have a special occasion and you want to change things up a little bit, Sand City can close down for the day so your private party can be held. And you may be asking about food. Since there is no kitchen on the grounds, that doesn't mean you can't enjoy some food. Located at each table is a flip book of some of the great food choices in the area. On those pages is a QR Code where you can scan at your table and order food to be brought and delivered.
We can go on a little bit more but by now you probably understand how much fun you can have by stopping by. So next time you are in the area, do yourself the favor and stop by Sand City South. Tell Ian (manager) and Michele (bar tender extraordinaire) we sent ya for an extra smile. Cheers!
